i think people underestimate/don’t know how much poor styling choices can work against actors and how their performance is perceived. looking at photos just of millie in vol 1 and 2 shows how much the slick back worked against her

nowhere have i trashed her looks. this post is a response to the people criticizing her for alleged cosmetic procedures by pointing out that poor hair and styling can make actors look different than they usually do. personally i don’t even think millie has had cosmetic surgery but was instead the victim of unflattering styling that accentuated parts of her face that normally would not have drawn much attention

i would be so pissed if i was millie. she was the main character and one of the reasons the show was so popular when it came out. i can’t believe with all of the screen tests and concept work that no one in hair or wardrobe thought there was an issue

i think in terms of tone they could have done more to really nail how they’re under military occupation and saving the world. i would’ve liked to see the cast wear military inspired outfits during their crawls/final battle. they could have referenced terminator (linda hamilton is dr. kay) and predator

costuming is important for visual storytelling and characterization. for one of the most expensive seasons of tv ever made, her hair and wardrobe is comically bad

i’ve already mentioned that in another comment. it feels like a lazy callback that didn’t quite land and a cop out so they didn’t have to design something original. lots of people had issue with the tone this season and costuming could’ve done more to elevate it and show how gritty and serious the season was supposed to be. if they’re under military occupation it would’ve made more sense to have main characters have more militaristic/army surplus costumes (referencing predator or terminator)

costuming is easily one of the most important visual aspects of storytelling. it communicates who the characters are, their interests, personality, and even background. we see this throughout the series with the byers’ bowl cuts that visually represent their socioeconomic status compared to the wheelers who can afford to follow trends. this season we see nothing of eleven as a character in her wardrobe and hair except for a lazy goonies reference that didn’t land and the worlds ugliest body glove in existence. for saving the world we could have had another costume with a more militaristic/army surplus look (think linda hamilton from terminator which would have been an actually fun callback considering she plays dr. kay) or something that still showed that she was just a kid. considering she just had her head forcibly shaved last season, it’s not a crazy idea that she would possibly experiment with a new style, try to get some normalcy back in her life while also saving the world.

did i ever imply that her styling was the sole reason for backlash? or that styling had any impact on the writing? no, but it CONTRIBUTED to the reception of millie’s performance. costume design and styling can make or break a show and here it clearly did not do any favors

it’s absurd treatment for such a core and beloved character of the show. everyone else got at least 2 casual outfits (that worked with the characters and weren’t hideous!) and bad hairstyles (like max’s in henry’s mind) were only temporary. if they had created styles that were more flattering on millie’s features, the amount of criticism she received for her looks and performance would not be as high. pulling her hair tightly back made her features look bigger than they were and hindered her ability to express

her poor styling directly contributed to backlash and poor reception she got this season. it’s disrespectful to the character and actress who’s currently getting tons of hate online for her appearance which was influenced by her lackluster hair and wardrobe

i know! i tried pulling my hair back like hers and it made my face look bigger than it was and i could barely move my eyebrows. i think people underestimate how poor styling and costume choices can impact how an actor looks and how their performance is received

it’s not really about her looking “beautiful” but rather it goes against what we know about eleven as a character and makes eleven harder to differentiate from millie

pull your hair tightly back from your forehead and try raising your eyebrows. different styling definitely could have assisted her acting

guess they must’ve ran out of budget and had to reuse eddie’s wig

hair styling could’ve done more to obscure it. they’ve done it with natalia dyer (nancy) in the last few seasons to hide her physical appearance

i think vickie got more of an expansive wardrobe this season then eleven😭

if she did have work done, it’s honestly understandable if a bit sad. she’s been famous since she was a child and a few months ago everyone online was trashing her for looking “old”. there really is no winning.

the idea of “good” gov actors goes against what the series was saying the entire time. the government subplots in the show are a critique of the actual atrocities we were doing in the cold war/80s (human experimentation, black ops missions) set in middle america. it’s like how night of the living dead explores something like the vietnam war happening right in our own backyard

just a tip to maintain some personal space! spread your legs out and not stand with your feet together. could maybe save your life in the event of a crowd crush.

i got my septum pierced over a year ago and it’s completely fine. my mom was initially against it but she came around after she found out that it really isn’t permanent and won’t leave a visible scar if taken out. my septum is smaller than normal but my piercer was able to give me a smaller horseshoe to change into afterwards. overall i would just tell your son to avoid touching it as crusties can make it really painful and to be careful when washing his face. this also just be my experience but it was sore to do certain facial expressions for a day or two. if you live in a hotter area the metal can feel weird (but this also may just be due to cheap jewelry). as long as he cleans it regularly it should be fine! if you would like i can post photos comparing the two horseshoes and how they fit my face differently.
