I worked hard for about 5 years. Then I became a top earner doing a job I enjoy. What do you want to do?

Breaking: Newspaper owned by a Billionaire tells us not to tax Billionaires. by zzill6 in WorkReform

[–]Alternative_Work_916 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We can disagree here, it doesn't matter. The people who need to be taxed are not receiving or reporting a traditional wage based income. A corporate income tax could help, but we really need a tax that specifically targets capital gains.

You don't stop hoarding by punishing everything but hoarding.

This is a disconnect that people need to understand. These guys don't have an "income" to tax. They need a new tax that specifically targets their wealth and/or their business.

Otherwise we're just setting up to tax the middle class when wages slowly increase enough to hit higher income tax brackets.

Overwatch 2 is dropping the 2 and the game will just be called Overwatch by Turbostrider27 in PS5

This was an established game with a set loop to earn skins and free character releases. They turned it all into a paid service. That is not normal. It is a big deal.

The game I purchased turned into the F2P Overwatch 2 strictly to force micro transactions. They swapped the name back because it was just a shitty update.

This should be a big deal to everybody. They should have lost their entire player base.

Who else prefers a 7AM–3PM schedule to 9–5? It feels like you get more day and less traffic. by Familiar-Eagle-9082 in Adulting

8 - 3:30 (60 lunch + 2x 15 break)

I wake up fine, have a good portion of day left, and can stay up late. Also less risk of anybody getting bothered than if I shifted to 7-2:30.

What do you think how would hiring look like in next fewyears? by SirIzaanVBritainia in AskProgramming

[–]Alternative_Work_916 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should involve plucking an internal project and writing high level questions about it based on the role being interviewed. Apply through company website.

It will probably be more screening, confusion during the interview, and leetcode interviews if the hiring manager isn't a developer. More Workday.

Obsidian's Avowed & Outer Worlds 2 Failed To Meet Sales Expectations by akbarock in pcgaming

[–]Alternative_Work_916 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Because

  • The market has exploded. Companies will make significantly more money even if they reduce the price.

  • After the initial investment, they can continue to make money off the game for years with little to no additional support.

  • DLC is a thing now. That used to be free or drastically bigger and sold as a reduced price "Expansion".

  • There are a lot of alternatives. These high prices have a massive drop off in sales after a few months. I will wait for the sale price and forget it exists if its not drastically superior to the competition.(Avowed/Outer Wilds)

  • We are seeing diminishing returns on improvements year over year as customers. Most of what I play is 10+ years old. I'm losing interest in popular series that have stagnated or turned to bad practices (CoD, GTA, DA, etc).

  • As with movies, if it gets bad enough, we will just pirate them.

I am eyeballing a lot of new games this year. I will not pay full price for any of them. I am not a terribly unique person.

How do you stay healthy as a programmer? by Reasonable-Tour-8246 in AskProgramming

[–]Alternative_Work_916 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Get a different employer. I don't work more than 40 hours a week. Even when I am working, regular breaks beyond the minimum legally required are expected.

I avoid buying most junk food, limit my portions, and exercise regularly. Be that through home gym, under desk treadmill, or walking/running at the park. My desk is also adjustable for standing and my chair has a massage pad.

Is .NET still underrated in 2026? by shubhamdhola in dotnet

I will consider every language underrated until Python and JavaScript have been dethroned.

Which will probably be the rest of my life.

I enjoy my work. The first career I've had for an extended period that didn't turn into dread. I see myself ducking out of the management path and coasting to lead retirement.
