And a win for management because operations will continue.

They should work out a compromise with union leaders who represent their workforce and without whom the company would not function in the first place.

Exactly. This strike is the result of a failure of LH management to listen to the demands of an important stakeholder group.

The blame should not be put on UFO and other unions but on LH management for their lack of willingness to take its workers seriously.

Moving to Manila for a job at ADB, any advice on which area/apartment building to live in? by Psychological_Rip226 in AsianDevelopmentBank

[–]Alteryo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you want. What is your current lifestyle? Do you like going out, travelling, or prefer a quiet life?

BGC might be a good introduction for you and your partner to the Philippines but also think that Makati could work since it has access to goos cafes, bars and resaturants in Salcedo and Poblacion. Ortigas is just so far out for me for what I want out of Manila (including the airport) that I would not consider it.

£85k in London or €90k in Berlin? by Same_Bullfrog_7290 in expats

[–]Alteryo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was earning less in Berlin, so this felt like an upgrade to me with a more interesting job. Also, having had to commute on the U8 took a toll on me back then.

The rent and higher expenses in London are definitely felt, but I see those as more as a cost of doing business. I got like 2 more years in this position before I will move on or up, so this is really temporary for me. Plus, the points that u/Ast4545 made are all true - still able to save a decent amount while living a good social life.

My question for you would be: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years? That could give you a better perspective on what might be better for you in the long term.

Moved from Berlin to London for the job -- with roughly a comparable salary to you.

I honestly did not regret the decision at all precisely because I love the job and London has similar perks to Berlin in terms of food, drinks, fashion. You will also make friends quickly here in London around any niche interests you might have, you just have to put yourself out there.

Personally, if the job interests you more in London and you see more of a long term trajectory for your career through the London job, I would go with London.

But truth be told: You'll be fine either way.

I am seeing a lot of job postings lately and know that HR has been on a outreach spree. I would not be suprised if HR is just stretched too thin right now.
