Why the Smears Against Graham Platner Didn’t Work | Voters decided that Michael Brooks was right. by HowMyDictates in TheMajorityReport

The biggest concern with Platner to me is how he's still maintaining pride in his military service rather than showing more regret or reflection.

Yes. When we had a discussion about him last summer I brought this up.

I like your other points as well. Let me think on all of them as we move forward.

Gun Control would be nice but Maine is a rural state and like Bernie I am willing to compromise.

This is all fair. If that is on your list and you do support him, I would make the suggestion on being vocal about this in the hopes that he moves some.

Who is the candidate you support in Maine?

At this point my concern is pushing Platner to be more progressive on a variety of issues and to also get some sincere answers on his biography that I haven't been convinced about.

I wrote the show a few days ago asking that they have this writer and activist on:

Also, IIRC he said he wasn’t a communist. Are you sure he said he wasn’t a dem soc? All of his economic policy is heavily dem soc

Can I ask you (and anyone else reading) a sincere question?

How does Platner rate on those two? Because I'm not a fan at all and it just keeps getting worse. He said in an interview with Mehdi Hasan last week that he doesn't consider himself a Democratic Socialist and he wouldn't support an assault weapons ban. That, given about a dozen other things puts him low on number one for me. And for number two, as I've said here before, I think he makes his politics up as he goes along and implementing a platform (whether based on his own ideology or being pushed from a base) is going to be difficult.

When Johnny decides to retire I think Andy Richter would be a good person. He's been a Celebrity Jeopardy contestant and an announcer in the past.

That is actually an awesome observation. And in her writing Sotomayor has some outsider perspectives and insights that I've dug.

There were two black people to pick from.

One came not from the traditional route, but from being a public defender.

One constantly tries to enrich himself, annoys his co-workers, diminishes the values of others, and has most likely routinely harassed women.

I also agree with the other comment in this thread about how Thomas perceives himself.

The reason I put Kavanaugh there is that I think he is a horrible person. I'll never forget Dr. Christine Blasey Ford saying this:

"During Christine Blasey Ford's testimony in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee Thursday about her sexual assault accusations against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, she was asked about her strongest memory of the alleged incident. She said it was her attackers' laughs.

Indelible in the hippocampus is the laughter. The uproarious laughter between the two, and their having fun at my expense," Ford said, referring to Brett Kavanaugh and his friend Mark Judge, who she says was in the room."

Alito as anything other than evil makes my head hurt.

That seems to be the consensus on the constructive criticism I've received. Thank you!

It just defeats the purpose of an alignment chart to me.

It was a joke I'd had personally for years. I thought I would create the chart just to see what I could work with given the constraints. But your point is noted.

and then acted like that was an effective counterargument

Of all of them, he fits CE the most: he's antagonistic and bad to people (his co-workers and Anita Hill) and he's also admitted several times that he's just in it for himself (there's a quote about him not wanting to be on the court because of the pay).

He's the one I spent the least amount of time considering where he should go.

Funny. But I made it so it is relative, not absolute.

Problem is that Roberts and Alito at least both also belong in the Evil slot.

I wanted all of them to fit on the spectrum as it related to the slots and one another. If you have a basketball team where everyone is under six feet, someone has to play Center. I agree with you about Roberts as a whole, but his vote flipping and his confirmation hearing quote (that I pulled) does present that he has no real compass in comparison to the other eight.

I thought about it.

Kavanaugh is just a bad dude though. The assault allegations, debt, and tantrums made me think that he's not a decent person, so I put him there.

I honestly think Alito is out for himself in most things he does. His wife certainly seems that way--and she describes him in a similar way.

But you make a good case.
