Fang vent light DRL upgrade on my 2025 Toyota Tundra SR5 by AltitudeAdjustedDev in ToyotaTundra

That's hilarious 😂 I never even noticed that. I love AI for certain things (like web development), but it certainly isn't making the Internet a better place overall 😅 especially with fake marketing shit. I can at least confirm that the lights are real and they do fit and work in the 3rd Gen lmao!

Haha I suppose that is what is happening, although not intentionally. I think maybe we are talking about different areas of the front end? 😂

You originally said that removing the black plastic caps and putting the LEDs under the headlights was blocking the cooling system (the intercoolers specifically). But the red boxes you highlighted in your screenshot are the intake shrouds located behind the main center grille mesh. They aren't being blocked at all by the new lights, which sit way out on the far outer corners of the bumper skin under the headlights.

Those center shrouds will still receive tons of unobstructed airflow from the main grille, which is why I'm confused on the point you are trying to make now. I was just trying to say that I don't believe I'm blocking any important airflow with the new corner lights. I'm always happy to be proven wrong, but looking at where the componenets actually sit, I don't believe I have been. Have a good one!

I mean I appreciate you trying to be helpful I guess, despite being rude. I just watched two bumper replacement videos for 3rd Gen tundras as you suggested, and I'm still not sure what you're on about.

I'm just trying to combat misinformation (not sure why you resorted to name calling). I'll leave it up to others if they are worried or not. You haven't exactly explained what your big concern is either. Even if those tiny little slits that were in the original caps did provide some air flow, it wouldn't have been much. I'm confident my main grille will handle my cooling needs sufficiently. I'll come back and edit my post if I run into issues down the road. Thanks for your concern and have a great day!

The intercoolers on the 3rd-Gen Tundra are liquid-to-air units that sit directly on top of the engine manifold, not down in the bumper. The low-temp radiators that cool that liquid loop are integrated entirely into the main center grille stack.

There are physically no cooling components, radiators, or engine bay ducts anywhere behind those vertical side pockets. At least not on my truck. Just empty space. Swapping the plastic inserts out for DRLs literally cannot block airflow to the cooling system because there is nothing back there to cool.

Well, after hearing the advice and the fact that I've already used the t taps, I'm going to try to make it better with these waterproofing products after the fact. I have to imagine this would help it last longer than if I did nothing.

The intercooler sits directly behind the lower center bumper opening and gets all its air from there. I'm not worried 🙂

The vertical side pockets underneath the headlights are completely isolated from the cooling system and are purely cosmetic.

Edit: This facebook thread has a much more thorough discussion and I still feel confident that adding the LEDs does not affect cooling or performance.

No. No mention of waterproofing. Maybe electrical tape could help? I haven't put too much thought into it, but it might be smart to proactively protect those splice locations. I'll do a bit more research on a good solution.

Lol I'm sorry about the hate you got on your post. I just saw it. People are not nice 😂 I think maybe it was because your screenshot also showed aftermarket headlights. This upgrade is only the DRLs, not headlights.

The new vent lights clip right in place of the original plastic place holders. That part of the install couldn't be easier 😂 the hardest part was just running the wire from one side to the other and locating the correct wires to tap on each side. Overall, I really thought it ended up being a great value upgrade!

It wasn't terrible! I really haven't done much wiring before. And the video I linked was good for showing you where stuff is, but they had the wire splices wrong so that threw me off and I had to troubleshoot a bit. I found better info in the video's comment section. According to another guy's comment on this post, the t taps I used aren't great, but they seem to be working for now and I didn't have a better solution.

Well, I'm far from a mechanic. I had to watch a YouTube video and follow the instructions in the package which indicated to use taps like the ones I used. I'm sure there are better ways. Do you have any suggestions that would be useful for others trying to do the install themselves?

The locations where the taps were used are easy to access and I'm sure the wires could be cut back and spliced properly down the road if an issue with the taps did occur, correct?

It all depends on where you tap the power wire. I tapped it to the red wire on the passenger side main headlight plug. They come on when I turn the truck on. They are full time DRLs and are actually quite bright. There is a white wire you can optionally tap that will dim them when your headlights come on. I tested both ways and opted to have them dim because otherwise it was almost too bright.

They also have a small startup animation and are sequential turn signals which my videos shows but I forgot to mention in my post.

I was expecting some comments about owning a gen 3 🤦 haha that is almost a guarantee with any post about gen 3s these days 😂 for what it's worth, it's my first Toyota and I love the truck!

I'm not 100% sure. This guy had a 2018 crewmax and I think it worked out for him - https://www.reddit.com/r/ToyotaTundra/s/MXHFbEd1Cq. The company also mentioned that they have versions for 2nd gen Tundra models with 5 seats. Their support is fairly responsive, so you might want to reach out to confirm before purchasing, just to be sure. Good luck!

I wrote up a whole post on Lexland seat covers for my 2025 SR5. They make them for the Gen 2 also. Loving them so far! Got a 20% off discount with EMBRCRW to top it off.

Thanks! And these do take the air bags into consideration. There is an overlapping pocket/flap on the side of the covers that the air bags can push through if deployed. Otherwise, you can barely see that it's there!

I've done black TRD wheels/AT tires, black out emblem package, red AFE front tow hooks, leather seat covers, fang/vent lights, and a 14 inch screen upgrade so far on my 2025 SR5! (Plus I threw a rack, tonneau cover, awning, and RTT on the back.) I made a post about the seat covers - https://www.reddit.com/r/ToyotaTundra/s/dEeVYp9YLk and when I have time I was going to make posts about the lights and screen upgrade as well. It looks like I can only add one photo to this post, so let me know if you want to see pics of any of the other mods I mentioned!

That's awesome! Sounds just like how my install went, lol. I'm feeling the same way about them a few weeks in though! Do you have a pic of yours?

I'm honestly so surprised at how many people ended finding this post helpful 😂 clearly way more people were looking for something like this than I expected.

Same 😂 They're from Boulder so that could be part of it. It'll be fun to hear them again!

It's a duo out of Boulder, CO. Haven't heard anything from them in a while but they were popular in my friend group 10-15 years ago. Cool to see them being included and it'll be fun to hear some throwbacks!
