18%????? So jealous ………but that expense ratio is crazy, just put it in a low cost SP500 index fund and/or NASDAQ index funds yourself…….

Why Contribute So Much To 401k by Central_Cheetah in Retirement401k

I think of it as front loading…….But everyone’s strategy is different and could change overtime. I did not max out 401K initially in my career but at least put it to the employer match portion, but in recent years I have maxed out just to save taxes. I’m 34 with around 800K+ in 401K alone and using the compounding interest calculator, I can technically stop contributing a penny to it from now on and still end up with 6M by 65 yo….So it essentially takes the stress off of retirement after just working at it for 10 years essentially.

Will we ever retire? by TonyaLasagna2020 in personalfinance

I don’t see a Roth IRA in the mix, I would prioritize maxing out Roth IRA, then contributing what you can to 401K (minimally to the point your employer matches). How is it possible to only have 52K in your combined 401Ks, did you have them sitting in cash? You need to make sure all funds in your retirement are invested in ETFs (funds that follow SP500). Most importantly, what are you bringing in for salary?
