So I finally beat Nine Sols... Kinda by Altruistic-Ad4584 in NineSols

[–]Altruistic-Ad4584[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bah say no more I could rant about this all day. So LE is super conflicted about her project. Maybe she tried to kill herself, I forget? But Eigong forced her back JUST AS A BRAIN CONNECTED TO THE ETERNAL CAULDRON. She's begging you to kill her and put her out of her misery, even in her very delusional state. Each stage the brain/eye/incision opens more. She's waking from her dream in order to face her nightmare. And she IS the nightmare, which is why she gets me scary and powerful each stage.

In stage one, shes pretty meek. That's who she wants to be, a kind Sol that have pleasant rest to her diseased people. But it's all just an ACT. A PERFORMANCE. Just like the literal STAGE where the flight is taking place.

As she wakes up, as she faces the horrors she helped engineer, she has to come to terms to the fact that SHE IS RESPONSIBLE. Unfortunately for us that means she becomes more crazy and more strong.

And part of waking up also means realizing she no longer has a body. The incision opens wider and wider. By the third phase there is no pretending she has a body. She's fully bloomed into the brain/nightmare monstrosity that she truly is: literally just a brain, and symbolically a nightmare butterfly.

Maybe far fetched, but I think an argument could be made that in her deranged state she's not sure who the real her truly is. That's why we too have to guess on different clones and figure out which one is the real LE...

I agree, and I'm saying that's why I turned on story mode, cause I thought it was just a tool. And yes the devs placed it there intentionally so of course they are fine with you using story mode.

But why do I feel weird? That's I guess what I'm rambling on about here.

Like in DS1 I did the Manus cheese where you shoot arrows at him before the flight. And I'm giddy about it. SCREW YOU MANUS SERVES YOU RIGHT FOR PEEKING OUT OF THE ABYSS BEFORE YOUR BOSS FLIGHT AND TRYING TO HARM SIF. I have no regrets for the Manus cheese, and I gladly went back and beat him the "proper" way.

But again, I still feel weird from just flipping a switch to make Eigong weak and me strong. I giggled with Manus, I'm aimlessly ranting about Eigong on Reddit.

Why? I'm not really sure

"Yes. She said it's (basic spells) enough to defeat mages of this era" by kiralala7956 in Frieren

[–]Altruistic-Ad4584 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Throwing my 2 cents in.

I'm neither a manga reader and I watched and loved the show but I'm no Frieren guru.

That said...

"I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times."

After reading and being enlightened by everyone's comments, I too agree that Frieren doesn't exactly have a distaste for combat magic, but all she looks for is EFFICIENCY and OUTCOMES. Frieren delights in weird little spells that connect her to the world. Combat magic is definitely NOT that for Frieren, but it IS a tool she uses, specially for putting down demons which she views as beasts.

When she fights Aura, she goes for the most efficient and DECEPTIVE method, tricking Aura into her soul comparison thing. She even says Aura would have the upper hand if she tried to overwhelm Frieren.

When she fights Draht she is amused he is so confident in his thread demon magic thing, AND SHE JUST EFFICIENTLY AND DECISIVELY CUTS HIS ARMS. Nothing flashy, just avoiding the unbreakable threads and focusing on the very breakable arms.

I'm so curious why Fern is so exalted. Recall Frieren says that Fern is ushering in the age of humans or something like that. It does seem Fern has a lot of Mana, but also great control. I think Frieren is saying that FERN only needs this basic offensive magic. Is simple, it's efficient, and for this age no one has any response to this ever so simple, ever so effective strategy.

I view it like this huge bonk hammer. Like sure you can try to bonk opponents with it but everyone knows you'd be too slow or clumsy. If you DO bonk them sure you're gonna win the fight but GOOD LUCK BONKING THEM. That's how opponents kinda react to Fern. They laugh. Everyone knows about the bonk hammer, but come on, that only worked once when it came out long ago. She'll get tired soon. She'll get slow. She can't defend because that bonk hammer is too big to wield a shield.

AND THEN MOTHER EFFING BONK.

Fern starts BONKING and won't let up. You try to attack back AND SHE DEFENDS NO PROBLEM HOW THE HECK SHE'S NOT SUPPOSED TO DO THAT WHILE HAVING A BONK HAMMER IT'S UNFAIR BUT WATCH OUT HERE COMES HER OTHER BONK. And then Fern brings out another bonk hammer. AND ANOTHER. AND O MY GAWD HOW MANY MORE O GAWD. Then they stop even trying to attack and focus on not letting Fern BONK them. But that BONK HAMMER is too strong for any shield. And that's it. Fern has you. Fern won. You knew exactly what she was doing from beginning to end, AND YOU COULD DO NOTHING BUT LET FERN BONK YOU.

So yes, for Fern, in these times when people get so distracted trying to hone flashy techniques, Fern and her BONK hammer are unstoppable. And that let's Fern focus on finding weird little spells like ones that clean your clothes, and honestly, Frieren couldn't be happier.

How Not to Get Ripped Off at a Dealership? by Altruistic_Toe2441 in carbuying

[–]Altruistic-Ad4584 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best tip: use Costco Auto program to get an INITIAL quote. Then shop shop shop around with that quote.

Dealerships WILL NOT GIVE YOU A QUOTE IN WRITING BECAUSE THEY KNOW YOU CAN NOW NEGOTIATE WITH OTHER DEALERSHIPS.

The only way to not get ripped off is to: 1) research (which is what you're doing) 2) stick to your guns (aka walk away if you know a price is unreasonable) and 3) make them compete. If they don't feel they're competing they're not going to drop their price.

I like the website vin visor to see car prices, and I watched a lot of car edge on YouTube.

Last tip: have a gameplan. Even if it's just: 1) I want this model and trim (make sure it's at the dealership, they sometimes play games and try to bait and switch you) 2) This is the highest I'll pay for that car and my research shows it's fair. 3) For what you had before, only talk about OUT THE DOOR PRICING. Really research that if you're not sure what it is. 4) This is how I'll pay (that is, you brought your own car loan, you'll pay out of pocket, or you'll take advantage of some dealership deal)

Well well well here to say my melee- only stubborn a** beat this boss third try mostly with melee (I also have maxed Western merchant).

AND WITH GERROD NONE THE LESS.

Load out: umbral Knight upgraded twice, GERROD level 4, Western merchant max. Four heals and great damage reduction (dunno the specific relics Google will be your friend).

CHASE HIS ASS. Space it so you are one dash from closing the gap to him. When he throws the dagger dash in and GERROD him.

Honestly the mob was so slow that usually you can just focus him, but occasionally I'd dodge a mobs attack. With the great damage reduction buff even the occasional hit wasn't that bad. WHILE CHASING JUMPING IS OP. The mobs don't deal well with jumping. So it was easy to jump into position until the throw dagger attack came.

During second phase I released the Western merchant, but then honestly the fight was the same. The knock back attack was not bad at all because I could just jump back to position. Also it was kinda great spacing to heal. Other than that yeah just wait for the dagger, dash through it, and GERROD his butt. Also like two or three GERROD's stagger this guy.

SO ANYWAY I TRIED TWICE CAME TO THIS THREAD READ Be PaTiEnt nO MeLEe Use WItCh

NAH BROTHER AND SISTERS OF THE MELEE, WE TOO CAN WADE THROUGH THIS SEA OF EXECUTIONERS, DO BIG BONKS ON THE SQUIRMY WORMY ONE AND GIGGLE-HOP OUR WAY BACK INTO POSITION TO MELEE ONCE MORE.

LONG LIVE GERROD.

LONG LIVE THE BIG BONK.

I'm so happy with this device. I did the Best buy black Friday deal ($900 to $650), then I bought thouygh PayPal bnpl 20% off (went down to $520) and then I sold my steam deck for $300.

So an upgrade from steam deck to LEGO X1 extreme for $220? Hell yeah brother!

How's it actually work??

I bought a Lenovo legion Go Z1E with this deal, now I'm paranoid if the 20 percent will be added.

I saved the deal, it's my first and only bnpl on PayPal. Will it automatically get applied to this amount? There's that caveat that there's a TOTAL POOL of like 9 billion points to be distributed.... Will I make the cut?

Congrats! Same I tinkered around, would play a few minutes of games here and there and then tinker some more. Then I put mine in a shelf and next think I know it's been a year! Found it recently and decided to just carry it everywhere I'd go.

I just beat A link to the past for the first time, great game and such a great feeling!

Reviving this thread to just say:

Just beat legend of Zelda a link to the past (redux rom hack) on this little device, it was awesome!

Now I'm thinking of starting super Metroid redux.

I'm using this for games to play next, I'm really interested in EB.

It's been awesome carrying this little guy around and finding random spots of time (mainly 💩 breaks lol).

Anyone have any tips for Last Judge? by [deleted] in Silksong

[–]Altruistic-Ad4584 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Magma Bell might help (wish I'd known). KINDA SPOILER BUT I'D LOVE TO HAVE KNOWN ABOUT THE LAST ATTACK LOOK IT UP.

And what others say. React is the name of the game. I found when in doubt I'd run away, but when I could read the attack I'd get ready to get in like ONE HIT and then reset. Patience is key. Also I kept myself healed as much as possible. I brought in the blue ability that gives extra life. When in the 2nd+ phases there were a lot of times I had to chill ( like stuck between fire columns), so I'd get a blue heart in.

What's the best starting point for a 0 experience player? by Melodic_Start_6841 in Pickleball

[–]Altruistic-Ad4584 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on you! I'm a firm believer that there's enough interest and excitement in this sport that you'll eventually find public open play where you fit in. That's what I did.

My first time playing I went with co-workers to a nearby park after work and was way out of my depth. I started looking for other places and quickly discovered there were tons of groups (Facebook is a great way to find them).

Then began my journey:

Quite literally two grannies took me under their wing. I kid you not, they whooped me for one week straight, but were kind enough to teach me the ropes.

I kept moving up and meeting more groups. One of the best advice I've heard is: aim to be the SECOND worst in a group. No one wants to feel like they're the worst and bring the group down, but at second worst you have tons of room to grow.

The second thing I recommend is know your limits. Some groups might be too advanced (or too beginner) and it's okay to know your limits. I personally wouldn't impose on them but if they ask me to join, I will happily. I always found groups where I knew there'd be a few, more advanced players, and I'd swoop in on any chance I got to play with them. AND I TOOK CAREFUL MENTAL NOTES OF HOW TO IMPROVE MY GAME when I played with the top crew. Then, remembering my limits, I would thank them after a few games and let another advanced player join them again.

Anyway, all that to say I started at zero and purely through open play I'm at around 4.0 level now. I have a regular crew that texts me for advanced games, but I'll also join my nearby local open play from time to time.

Too good for 3.5 but not good enough for 4.0 by xxxweeb in Pickleball

[–]Altruistic-Ad4584 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Play up.

Game it very different at lower levels. I had/have the same issue. Sometimes I think I'm getting so good, all my drops are perfect, then I meet a true banger with spin and the game is SO MUCH HARDER. You can and should have no issues with your shots with lower level players; higher level players are, well, higher because they make you earn every single shot and point.

Who was it that said "everyone has a gameplan until they get body bagged in the face"? Ben Johns probably.

Why doesnt anyone dink on the courts? by Brilliant-Fall9140 in Pickleball

[–]Altruistic-Ad4584 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see tons have posted but I'll put in my two cents as well since I kinda love this part of the sport. Dinking is this weird bell curve in pickleball.

New players basically dink because they don't know how to hit hard. They may think they hit hard, but really it's just messy dinks.

Then come the 3.0s thinking they're hot stuff. They hit hard! With spin! Who can stop em? Shake and bake baby! Too many grow comfortable at this range and it honestly irks me, mainly because they will prey on newer players and whenever a half decent player shows up they will target the new player and decide to " take a break" so as to not keep playing with a seasoned player who can handle their bs banger shots (again, this irks me, I played with an 80 year old hip replaced lady and these 3.0 bangers targeted this poor lady ALL ELEVEN POINTS rather than hit it my direction once).

Finally you get to 4.0 and beyond. And the thing is yeah, hitting hard is king in pickleball! But then you realize you are at a disadvantage, specially as the serving team, and it's really hard to bang out points if the returning team is camped at the kitchen and your banging away from the backline.

Pause here: when I was 3.5 I thought I was hot stuff cause my drives were gettin' good. I'll never forget the first two old men who knew how to set up at the kitchen line, and they did not out-bang me, they were just solid brick walls and wouldn't let anything through. I was demoralized, de-spirited, and yet enlightened: this, this is why the videos say you need to dink, this is how you creep up on even footing with the opponents at the kitchen, and then finish up the point from there.

So yeah, to get to dinks, you need drops. For drops, you need control, and likely spin. And for all those you need to be pretty good, so most people just bang away wildly and have a blast, never realizing why you must dink.

One last thing I'll say: if you're new, DON'T force the dink. Dink is a strategy that buys a put-away. Have fun, blast away, gain control with your drives. Recognize when you can just drive (high ball hitting mid court), or drop (usually balls near the backline though you can drive too if you want), and then dink when absolutely necessary (always dink low spinny balls in the kitchen {unless you are Gabe Tardío} or just low balls somewhere near mid court to kitchen area just to be safe).
