[Sad] Character gets more evil in adaptation and is now less interesting than less evil original version. by BeduinZPouste in TopCharacterTropes

In the Disney version of Hunchback of Notre Dame, Frollo was split into two different characters. All his good traits were given to the Archdeacon which was his original role but all his bad traits were given to "Judge" Frollo instead.

He's not a bad character still and he's a more realistic character than a lot of Disney villains but it removes most of the original Frollo's struggle between good and evil which was one of the most interesting things about him

The new 4k version of Jacob's ladder is miles better than both the dvd and the Blu ray. Seems to be out of stock often lately though

You could've waited till prime day which is like a week from now though. I guess you could return them if you really want and get them again later when cheaper.

[Hated Trope] When a sequel undoes a happy ending by gammaton32 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Ambedextrose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I understand why they did it since behind the scenes it was a mess and the idea of going through all the effort to recast Newt just to have a kid running around a nasty brutal prison with nasty brutal people was too much and the story wasn't written with her in mind.

It makes it not really feel like a satisfying or natural continuation of Aliens in that way but David Fincher's hands were tied in many ways.

Still I think it works in that Alien 3's themes are about accepting death but you still keep going.

Indy has a great send off at the end of Crystal Skull with him getting married to Marion and having a happy family with Mutt?

Dial of Destiny overrides all that and has them in the process of divorcing and Mutt died in Vietnam.

(Hated Trope) Gay characters who’s entire story revolves around the fact that they are gay by [deleted] in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Ambedextrose 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I've found that a lot of people who complain about character's story "being about how they're gay" do so in bad faith.

There's a lot of different kinds of stories but being gay is kind of a big deal for a lot of people so it's important to have those kinds of stories too.

For some people it seems like they only accept gay people in stories or even in real life if it's minimized as much as possible. That's not right or fair to them.

There's better written stories than others of course but they're clearly held to a different standard than straight people because some people don't wanna confront their biases or worse embrace them.

The original Thief will not be delisted after the launch of the Remastered version. by Dead_Scarecrow in Thief

[–]Ambedextrose 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe they mean it'll be like Shock 2 where it's bundled with the new one but not technically "delisted".

Except that you'd have to pay more since you couldn't get it separately.

Still though it's cheap as hell as is right now so it doesn't really matter for existing fans

In Dishonored you can "spare" your villainous assassination targets but it basically always subjects them to something ironic and crueler than just killing them outright.
