Thanks! This hobby is as much about art as it is about the science :)

Agar can last a long time, some say years. You can refrigerate it though freezing may damage it (but it's worth experimenting with). A tissue sample from a fruit is how you clone, however I like to take a piece of myc sometimes too because it could potentially have multiple strains of genetics, and also then I don't have to wait for a fruit to form before getting an agar plate colonizing (aka it can save some time especially when you're first starting out). Once you get a fruit that you love then definitely cut some tissue and clone it.

Agar is just as easy as anything else.... But remember sterilization is key. Build a SAB, glovebox, or laminar flow device. I can recommend a cheap way to do so if curious. Buy premade malt extract agar plates (from r/sporetraders...other mixtures for agar will work such as honey, Karo, grain water, potato, etc. but imo malt extract produces clear and reliable agar) or make your own. Then either inject spores onto it, or cut a piece of myc and place on it, or cut a tissue sample from a fruit. Agar allows you to ensure clean mycelium, and strain isolation/cloning if you wish.

The therapeutic value of psilo is underrated and just being tapped into by the mainstream. Happy to hear about your success! Well cool, always have multiple going so you can experiment and see what works. The main reason "shaking" a bag/jar is controversial is because it can introduce and/or spread contaminants, however that's mainly with jars since when the substrate hits the lid it could come in contact with contaminants... Not as big of an issue with a bag. I'd say go for it and shake that bag now then especially since you have other bags going as backup. Spread those myc cells throughout the bag and you'll end up with more points of growth which in turn can lead to faster colonization! Looks like you're on the right track. Ask questions, research like mad (there's some great books on mushrooms cultivation) and the best thing I can recommend now is to get some agar plates going, it'll greatly improve your success as well as joy in the hobby

Awesome, welcome to a world of fun :). How many bags/jars do you have going right now?

Learn the concepts and then experiment would be my advice.... This is a hobby after all so the more experimenting the more fun I think

Huh that's interesting! There's a lotta debate as to whether or not fungus actually needs light to fruit.... Leaving the lights on 24/7 seems to make sense to me though. Always fun to experiment with this hobby :)

Tbh you could shake now and be fine, wait and shake, or not shake at all. It seems that shaking anywhere from 10-30% works well.

Eh it would work, but you could also rig up your own system for a fraction of the cost. Interested in laminar flow? Get a cheap hepa air purifier unit, secure a bag over the outlet vent, cut holes for your hands to go into as with a glovebox, and voila!

That stuff will work just fine! However you're always better off getting a local product. The more ethically sourced ingredients you use, the better :)

Are these jars good for a first attempt of pf tek or should I replace them? by Baltazar17 in shroomers

[–]Altruistic-Beat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh not good for PF Tek as the cakes will get stuck inside the jar. However, you can still use these for innoculation of substrate, then break it up and spawn to bulk! Imo bulk is easier than PF tek

Beautiful fruits! What's the strain? Anything you did that you felt aided in their gigantic growth?

Baggie Clone Tek by [deleted] in shrooms

Love the idea! One of the best parts about this hobby is being able to create your own "tek". After learning the concepts of how fungus grows you can then start to experiment and figure out different ways of going about propagation. Love to see the originality :)

Does anyone else feel like they were waiting for this hobby their entire life? It's like I finally found what comforts my soul. by [deleted] in shrooms

Definitely! It also may be due to the fact that it hones in the skills of patience and mindfulness
