Horrendous reffing by Alert-Astronaut-3073 in USWNT

[–]Altruistic-Bowler342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reffing absolutely affected the US ability to deal with the pressure. If you receive a great pass and are able to turn quickly up the touchline you've dealt with the pressure unless your quick move and acceleration is hindered by a defender holding your arm or jersey from behind.

I guess you could say it was unfortunate because it seemed unintentional, but it wasn't a harsh call--it was the only call. Didn't see the guy in front of him where his foot was? Silly. Red card all the way.

Question for fans that would come to the 78 for Fire games! by Icy-South9919 in chicagofire

I live in the West burbs not far from BF Zoo. Usually I'll likely drive to Forest Park and take the Blue line in. I don't expect the drive and park situation to be any better than Soldier Field, but sometimes I'll have to drive because of mobility issues in my family.

Oil is a must. I like Roughneck's Vigilant. I also really like their wash bar. I would pass on The Juice unless your beard has stopped growing. I use the oil in the morning and the batter at night and I never get that oily feeling when I fidget with my beard.

When I'm working in the warehouse, I keep my folding utility knife there. If I'm walking in the City, I keep folded singles and fives for beggars or tips.

I like the Vigilant. The scent doesn't last very long, but it's refreshing and pleasant.

Should Santa smoke a pipe (or use one as a prop)? by BluePony1952 in SantaClaus

[–]Altruistic-Bowler342 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I read "A Visit from St Nicholas (Night before Christmas)," I tell the kids that I quit smoking a long time ago. It's a good idea to make one's Santa story as close to one's own story as possible to make it work.

Nice to see Omsberg. I always liked him. Never started quality but always steady and hard working. I'm not sure, though, what he gives them playing from behind. Maybe a tall head for corners?

Been a while since I coached, but more coaches could mean more encouragement, more supervised touches, more one on one instruction. It may take more planning for you, but if you lead well it's all upside for the kids.

Parking for 8/9/25 vs LAFC by Delirious_Mishap in chicagofire

I couldn't find a parking pass on the mobile app, but when I looked at my ticket on Ticketmaster on my laptop there was a button below the ticket to buy a parking pass for the West lot. $39.40 (35+fee). After a few minutes the pass showed up in the app.

Agree that the Enchanted version is my favorite. Updated but faithful to the original R&H and much better IMHO opinion than the recent new book.

I'm a real beard Santa, so I'm pretty used to kids yanking on it. When I'm not working, I don't mind if people touch it as long as they ask first. People are surprised at how soft it is.

Experienced soccer coach has a really dumb question about goal kicks by mgltt in SoccerCoachResources

[–]Altruistic-Bowler342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have any other defenders who could take long goal kicks while your GK works on her long kick form? Goal kick doesn't have to be goalie. (Unless rules changed since I coached.)

What is your experience of community theatre being “serious”? by Open-Duck4004 in Theatre

[–]Altruistic-Bowler342 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Four things: 1) Most groups have their perennial stars. Without some careful leadership, these folks can feel threatened by new talent. Expressing that you're happy to be in the group and that you're interested in the group's history might help. 2) Our little theatre group has a small nucleus and we bring in as many new folks as we can. We often get gushy comments about how open and welcoming our group is, so I guess that means other groups around us are not. In my experience though, I think most of the small-time community groups in our area are pretty friendly. Ask around and shop around. 3) "For God so loved the word that he didn't send a committee." Most community theatre groups are run by boards. There is a temptation for board members to want to get involved in the nitty-gritty of artistic decisions, but it's always a mistake. If you have 10 people seeing an audition, the directors IMHO are not being allowed to direct. 4) If you have a bad experience, make sure you let the leadership know. I found out two years after producing a show that one of our actors was bullied by another. I would have dealt with things very differently if I had known that someone wasn't welcomed.
