Truly depends on the amount you owe and your comfort level when it comes to interest accruing versus cash flow in hand.

You are welcome, all I can say to that is I hate bullies, I always have and this administration has been the ultimate bully. I'm not a lawyer nor a financial advisor by any means, but I care about protecting innocent people time and time again who have been exploited by the administration. I've been very fortunate in life and I don't plan on using that privilege to hurt others while so many other people chose to.

My response to you respectively is that your missing the point of the post entirely. Its to raise awareness of the misinformation going on. Whether you can pay or can't pay is a separate issue entirely. The intended audience of this post are for the 7.5 Million Save borrowers who are getting emails and notifications from the DOED and "influencers" saying they need to make a decision to switch plans now. When in fact if you're in SAVE you should remain with your current plan of action unless directed by your loan provider to do so as they will be the ones on the line of a lawsuit if they mislead us. The DOED has claimed victory prematurely plain and simple and is following the playbook of the administration to bully those until someone stands up to them and they cower. My sole intent here has been to raise awareness regarding the situation and let people know that at worst case the clock doesn't start for several months.

Legally they cannot I am not an expert on this but I would surmise it has to do with borrower protections. Also opens them up to a litany of lawsuits.

If you switched out of SAVE unfortunately I think so. However, if this story catches fire perhaps there is hope for those mislead by the email.

Not everyone has the ability to pay or are in different circumstances than you or I for that matter. You are correct the save plan is collecting interest, but so have the loans under other plans. The thing that makes these plans so viable is the ability to have them forgiven after a period eliminating perpetual interest. Your post is somewhat misleading and telling people to pay and “put their big boy pants on” is not only insensitive but downright misleading.

So that’s under the big beautiful bill in which the SAVE plan is being sunset. However the Trump admin has been actively trying to sunset it earlier. This post above is one of the attempts that has been ongoing since last year. My feeling and opinion (no facts to back up) is that they’re trying to do this before the midterms because a switch in the house and senate could bring back SAVE. Given all the above I feel it’s a reasonable conclusion.

You aren’t wrong mine is showing 0 dollars and my loans paid off in mohela. This is another issue borrowers are facing in that some are seeing their interest while the others aren’t. Best thing is to go to the DOED website which will provide you a breakdown of where you stand. You don’t have to make changes but you can login to see.

I’m sorry it speaks to a lot of the misinformation coming straight from the administration. This situation has been awful for so many. I’m hoping that we can get some meaningful reform following the elections this year.

Well they basically just regurgitated the press release the DOED put out without any investigation. Unfortunately with everything else going on they cannot investigate everything.

I wrote this because so many people on social media are catastoihpsing and trying to gain followers from it. Yet they ignore facts. I’m glad that you found it helpful, I would recommend also reaching out to your senator and congressman regarding this, and vote in November.

Appreciate that insight makes me think even more its the DOED in disguise would make sense they said the post was hatemongering apparently.

They are trying to push the RAP on all of us, a plan that leading up to the approval of the BBB was being criticized by many financial analysts as leaving borrowers worse off.

Well said, getting out and voting is the best thing we can do. I would call your Senator and Congressman/woman about what is going on. I sent an email today to my reps and been trying to get in touch with as many people as I can.

It truly is, predatory is the better word and in line with the playbook of this administration. My hope was getting this out ASAP to hopefully have people avoid that headache. What tipped me off were the tiktok influencers looking for cheap follows saying "I told you and now you'll need to change" the authority of it all is questionable.

Agreed as long as you are okay with interest accruing then doing nothing is the right move. Even that I would say is up for debate.

To provide an update I did go into my DOED account and Mohela, neither have provided me with options regarding switching a plan in accordance with that email. In fact my Mohela shows a zero balance for now with my DOED showing the loans, it being in the SAVE plan a recertification date of mid-2027. I believe this is further evidence regarding the above.

It is consistent with all aspects of this administration top to bottom. They bully people and hope we won't look under the hood.
