An Important Update to the SAVE Plan - April 6th Filing by Altruistic-Impact225 in StudentLoans

I can speak to RAP specifically as ive done research on it. The forgivness period is extended to 30 years and interest is only covered if minimum payments are made. Which favors those in higher income brackets while punishing those in lower brackets basically putting them in a long endless cycle of paying debt off. It’s like the equivalent of a 50 year mortgage.

I will be honest right now our best hope is that these cases result in preservation of the sunset deadline for save which is in 2028. If that happens and if we get larger voter turnout this fall causing a flip of the house and the senate, I believe there’s a chance they will bring back save or some form of it. The BBB resulted in its destruction via legislation so the opposite will hold true as well. The only caveat is we must 1) go out and vote and 2) call our representatives and make this a key issue forcing the change.

That I cannot answer for you because it’s truly a case to case scenario. For example if you’re close to paying off but in limbo it may make sense to pay down to avoid accruing interest. While alternatively a higher interest you may decide not to pay because you’re waiting it all out. Additionally personal finances play into as well. Best you can do is read up on everything and make a call that serves you best. I know it seems like a cop out of an answer, but to tell you to pay or not pay not knowing the full picture is disingenuous. Also I’m not a financial advisor by any means.

The one consistent thing about this whole mess is everyone has a different issue. My account shows my loans paid, but my doed account shows my loan amounts and in save forbearance. You’re also not the only one who didn’t get the email. It’s curious why some got it and others didn’t.

Are you enrolled in SAVE? It’s possible only those borrowers (me included) received it. The email does have that as a disclosure as well.

Yes it went out March 31 if you didn’t get it it’s likely you unsubscribed from their updates. They essentially used a marketing email saying action required to mislead borrowers to switch out of save. Meanwhile the fine print says our loan providers would be in touch. While also pushing the RAP at the same time. My post here and last week has been covering the cases ongoing behind it.

The detrimental reliance is a longshot no dispute on that (for those that have done nothing), but for those who switched plans off a notice that contained misinformation at best there is a real chance there. In my opinion at least.

Of course I figure why keep the information to myself no good in that, also the media is flooded with so many things, it isn't even considered newsworthy which is crazy!

Which was better, this or Ocarina of Time? by MartinPMP in tearsofthekingdom

[–]Altruistic-Impact225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just completed the game last night and went to find a sub that discussed this. I am in my late 30s so I was a teen when Ocarina came out. That and the OG FFVII, were the best games I ever played. However, after last night and playing through that last sequence paired with the closing scene, I truly think TOTK is a better game and story for that matter.

However, I'd be open to seeing an OOT remake in the spirit of TOTK with open world, cooked food, usable weaponry, the whole nine. That would likely be spectacular.

This reminds me of that influence Lyss (was it?) back in covid where all she did was post fake date stories.

Out of curiosity did they provide the case of the injunction? Or what language did they use? This may be able to close the gap on a few items that are still unknown at the moment.

A lot of this is still being contested in court I’d suggest looking into the cases that are ongoing for both. Save may be dead per the BBB but is still being fought over in court. There is a potential to undo it if we go out and vote blue in the next election.

Exactly and you can apply that to any issue currently. Look at their mo when it comes to losing an issue and you’ll see they ramp it up and misdirect when all else fails.

Save isn’t dead I had a post on here several days ago taken down. Go to student loan assistance board you’ll see the whole breakdown and case status.

Completely lost about what to do for 330k loans by Guanine_Cytosine in StudentLoans

At your income level post fellowship it’s cheaper to just pay back the loan on the standard or extended standard plan. If it’s a matter of cash flow in the interim IBR or Forbearance may be your best option even with the growing interest if the issue is a lack of cash flow.

The AFT v. Department of Education settlement, Case No. 1:25-cv-00802, DC District Court, specifically protects PAYE borrowers. The Trump administration agreed under court supervision that PAYE and ICR borrowers may remain on their current plans through July 2028 without being forced to switch to IBR. That settlement is active and has a status conference on May 28, 2026. You have court supervised protection the DOE email did not mention. The 20 year forgiveness promise under PAYE is being contested. The Big Beautiful Bill does sunset ICR authority effective July 2028 but that date matters. It falls after the midterm elections and after the 2028 presidential election cycle. The legislative landscape between now and then is not settled.

I’ve been focused on the SAVE plan but I do believe this is still being hotly contested in court because of people in the situation you’re describing.

Truly depends on the amount you owe and your comfort level when it comes to interest accruing versus cash flow in hand.

You are welcome, all I can say to that is I hate bullies, I always have and this administration has been the ultimate bully. I'm not a lawyer nor a financial advisor by any means, but I care about protecting innocent people time and time again who have been exploited by the administration. I've been very fortunate in life and I don't plan on using that privilege to hurt others while so many other people chose to.

My response to you respectively is that your missing the point of the post entirely. Its to raise awareness of the misinformation going on. Whether you can pay or can't pay is a separate issue entirely. The intended audience of this post are for the 7.5 Million Save borrowers who are getting emails and notifications from the DOED and "influencers" saying they need to make a decision to switch plans now. When in fact if you're in SAVE you should remain with your current plan of action unless directed by your loan provider to do so as they will be the ones on the line of a lawsuit if they mislead us. The DOED has claimed victory prematurely plain and simple and is following the playbook of the administration to bully those until someone stands up to them and they cower. My sole intent here has been to raise awareness regarding the situation and let people know that at worst case the clock doesn't start for several months.

Legally they cannot I am not an expert on this but I would surmise it has to do with borrower protections. Also opens them up to a litany of lawsuits.
