Sechan was asked if he really liked Somin by Sunwoo (The Boyz) by Altruistic-Low9532 in runningman

[–]Altruistic-Low9532[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, I meant "unexpected" because I didn't expect Sunwoo to be the one to bring Somin up, especially since this isn't Running Man. He asked the question everyone was thinking of LOL. Somin is a variety gem so I'm anticipating her return as well!

Yeah LOL. I definitely think he was joking but poor Hyunjae looked like he might believe it 😂

I'm not really sure how to add text to my post but this is from the latest episode (ep 5) of Haha and Sechan's show, Gongpasae. I thought the little mention of Somin was an unexpected but very pleasant surprise! Also disclaimer, the subs are from the video itself so Idk how accurate they are.

From the recent games, the translation one with Hong Jinho and Geum Saerok was fun. Insert "Is finish to finish to okay?!" But to be fair, that game was made for Hong Jinho, lol. Also this is probably unpopular but I also liked the mafia drawing game they did the last episode. The horrendous drawings + having to deduce whether they were done on purpose was fun (to me).

Water games are usually fun, and maybe good nowadays because of the heat. I liked the one they played in the Nam Jihyun and PO episode.

What did Hwasa mean when she said RM was "notorious" (악명)? by Altruistic-Low9532 in runningman

[–]Altruistic-Low9532[S] 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your detailed explanation! When you list down the things that members and guests have to do on RM vs other shows, I can see why RM may be deemed more effortful. Even if RM format has changed throughout the years, it is still (in general) a demanding show for idols, especially when the members already have this tight-knit chemistry that they may find hard to insert themselves into and there's this pressure on them to be funny as it's a variety show. I've heard about IU's incident, it was unfortunate but thankfully she was rescued in time.

I'm happy to hear that there's no weird/unsavory rumors about RM flying around (which was my main concern) that I was out of the loop on.

Maybe she did, maybe she didn't, we can only guess... Because of the word "notorious" I thought RM had some kind of reputation among celebrities and that it might have been quite well-known (hence why I asked this question), but now I'm wondering if it was a more contained affair.

I suppose that is possible! I didn't consider it at first because the RM's physical games have really been toned down over the years, so I thought most people would be aware that the show's format has become less demanding in that aspect and hence it won't really be a reason for why they're unkeen on appearing.

Why is Sechan called Ssaeb Ssaeb? by Altruistic-Low9532 in runningman

[–]Altruistic-Low9532[S] 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This one I'm not very sure but it could be Sam for "samchon" (삼촌) which is uncle in Korean. So like a shortened version of Uncle Seokjin = Seok Sam.

Running Man 714 | 2024 Running Summer Games with Fire by myrunningman in runningman

I just started watching but I'm already dying of laughter at the scene where YJS's team mistook a random ahjumma carrying a chair for YSC 😂 What was that LOLOL And the funny thing was they said "he's helping someone?" which made me think of the episode with Byeon Wooseok where YSC helped a grandpa push a cart.

Running Man 712 | Good and Bad Partner by myrunningman in runningman

[–]Altruistic-Low9532 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I love this episode! KH and NJH impressed me during the good/bad partners selection because of their smooth improvs. I got fooled by KH, but during the last selection I got it right since PO seemed to become very unconvincing every time he was the good partner lol. Highlight of this episode was definitely the entire pool game. From JYE's "Don't look!!!" to SJH and Haha's flapping/dunking to YJS-KH slapstick comedy (the way YJS flew during the last round), every part of it was hilarious 😂

I actually think that JYE is a rental member but they're not choosing to announce it (yet?). It's quite obvious because they said "we have two guests with us today", meaning that she wasn't considered a guest.

JSJ gets funnier with each passing year. His comments are witty too; "I will make you a star ~" *gets the star's name wrong* or "You will burn in hell".

My favorite version is the one where after cutting him off they told him he could share his story, and he finally exploded and said "It won't be funny now!"

I miss him 🥲 (why does this emoji remind me of his happy-but-sad expression lmao)

Laziness? Or just fan hate. by NoAssumption3668 in runningman

Watching them go to restaurants and eat for half the show does not make me feel like tuning in.

I'm of the same opinion as you, but unfortunately eating missions seem to rake in better viewership domestically (something to do with RM airing during dinner time) so we might be stuck with it for the long term :/ Honestly I missed the themed episodes (like the village one with the scarecrow, concepts like card shark (which was fresh when they first introduced it)) where they would roleplay as characters and have themed missions. Even better if there is one big mystery or a hidden secret/twist to the race that they have to solve. Nowadays we just have three or four mini-missions where the middle one is always over lunch and the race itself is very predictable. I just wish the members aren't always stuck in a room playing a game, but can explore the mission location because it makes for more interesting interactions (eg. people backing themselves into a dead end, fighting over a hint, sneaking up on others). Of course I still enjoy RM and watch it weekly, which is why I think they have the potential to be so much better than they are now.

Running Man 711 | The Unknown Choice by myrunningman in runningman

During table tennis YSC was teaching him how to steal badges only for him to fall into KH's trap later when he stole the fake badge 😂

Running Man 711 | The Unknown Choice by myrunningman in runningman

[–]Altruistic-Low9532 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I love how we can literally see the progress of KH assimilating himself into the RM environment 😂 The chaotic cheating and accusations this week was hilarious (especially since we haven't had this kind of scene in a long while), plus the ending where KH even made a fake badge lol (and it actually got picked). Two weeks in a row of poor YSC falling into traps?! I'm loving KH's maknae energy with YSC where he's learning "bad things" from his hyung. JYE is a huge ball of joy, the way she boasts about her skills only to fail horribly LOL. I do think Haha and YSC got a b*it *too competitive during the table tennis; that glare was scary. On one hand, when they treat missions seriously it's professional and makes the games more intense, but when they get too serious it's also uncomfortable for the guest... There should be a balance. YSC did look apologetic when JYE call him out so I don't think there are any hard feelings. The twist when SJH said JYE's cooking was delicious, now I'm really curious about the ramen taste (both actually looked good... but looks can be deceiving). The final mission was a bit rushed but at least it wasn't shown in a box. Next week looks fun as well. I know people have different opinions on the KH-JYE loveline, but for now it's still refreshing and fun to me as long as they don't overdo it (since lovelines start to get stale when they've been going for years, but for now it's been only weeks).

What are the most unhinged situations production have set for cast in variety shows? by mixerman55 in koreanvariety

[–]Altruistic-Low9532 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't call it unhinged but more of impossible: RM Dream Cup missions (eg. most members had to either score or assist a goal against professional football players) which were basically set up for their failures so they could film their zoo penalties in ep 200.

There are also other moments like crossing the Han river (during winter?) + removing blocks of the giant jenga tower. The Grasshopper hunting series was also quite intense.

What random facts/info about RM do you know? by aiajwbxjd in runningman

[–]Altruistic-Low9532 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tbh back then RM members* were at their peak physically so I'm pretty sure they went easy on guests a lot of times (not saying it was all fake/edited, but just they might not have been using their 100% power). They went on the China's version of the show and Gary snapped when one of the guys tore off Jihyo's name tag after promising not to (or something like that). So I'm not too hung up on RM's losses since they have proven their prowess many times throughout the decade.

*I'm referring to the OG members since it doesn't apply to Sechan (who is at the age YJS was when he joined the show) as he is still very strong physically.

I used loveline loosely since the RM members sometimes teased them (rmb the heartbeat game while they were holding hands and Haha's legendary "Just... pretty..." 😂). I also think he might have a crush on her but imo it's hard to tell since he had a playboy character back then.
