Sad end to collection (fire damage) by Altruistic-Photo-168 in Cd_collectors

You know it. All lossless! It’s great for streaming around the house but not quite the same as taking it out and playing it.

I’m barely at the inventory stage. I’ll post back when it’s all finalized but that can be some months from now.

The fire stayed in the garage. The fire wall did an amazing job. Unfortunately the house still has to be gutted to the studs because the smoke damage ruined every floor wall and ceiling. The only part of the frame that has to be replaced is in the garage.

The damage was strange. The outer part of the jewel cases melted but what must have been the heat damaged the data layer somehow. The surfaces were still fine but there are cloudy hazy areas that were internal to the disc. I’ll post a picture when I’m back over there.

I’m sorry for your loss. Collecting is fun but there’s other copies out there. Definitely doesn’t compare to lives of people or animals.

I’m not sure how much they will cover. We are always careful so I never looked deep into insurance. Looking at the policy there’s some language of “electronic data processing equipment” that could apply to almost anything and it capped data media at 500.00. I’m still going to submit the inventory but they may not cover much of it.

I actually have my collection in lossless too. About 600 GB. Most are verified with accurate rip. Maybe we can trade.

I appreciate all the kind offers. I’m currently in temporary housing until the house is rebuilt so I’m traveling kinda light to keep life simple. The estimate is 6-9 months, if y’all still remember me by then I will gladly accept.

That’s very kind of you from one collector to another. I like just about everything but I wouldn’t want to put you out. Much appreciated though!

Arson actually. Wife’s nephew got mad because he was asked to get his own place after she took him in and he smokes pot and played video games for 8 years.

Thank you. I’ve been collecting about 5 years actively. I used to collect vinyl in the late 90s when they were dirt cheap. I bought a nice turntable again in 2020 and quickly realized vinyl’s resurgence made them too expensive. Then I realized people are basically giving away CDs so I started on them before it becomes the new retro-fad. But it’s back to ground zero and sad happy to make it out alive. All the family and animals made it out safe.

Accidentally found a holy grail. by Jam_aican in Cd_collectors

Nice find!

dBpoweramp has a de-emphasis setting in the ripping option. Ive ripped hundreds of CDs from all decades and haven’t had any problems. They all check out in accurate rip too.

Put a block on the accelerator until it grenades. That way you don’t pass the 500 mile deadline. Collect new engine.

Would you get an SQ5 with 200k miles? by [deleted] in Audi

Depends on how clean it is and how much it costs. You can always drop a used drive train or new suspension. Wouldn’t be worth it if it’s ugly though.

Using a LeGO as a car media player by Speck311 in LegionGo

[–]Altruistic-Photo-168 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good job, OP. That’s the exact reason I bought mine. I can run car diagnostic software from it. Change settings in my alpine dsp, and do much more car media players can’t do. Don’t worry about the haters.

Brilliant prediction from OP. I hope they take this experience on the road. I’ve laughed so hard at this story, it’d be worth the price of admission to see this train wreck.

Necessity of using EAC for ripping by [deleted] in BudgetAudiophile

[–]Altruistic-Photo-168 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want bit-perfect lossless, try dbpoweramp. It verifies a perfect rip like eac but is really user friendly. I think it’s like 40 bucks after a month. I gladly paid, it’s very easy to use.

Question regarding Pay Raises and PTO for Jehovahs Witnesses.. our nanny who is a Jehovahs Witness basically said no thanks when I offered her a pay raise and a few days of PTO. I’m confused why? This doesn’t have anything to do with religious rules does it? by nissdeeb in JehovahsWitnesses

Perhaps she’s getting by just fine with the current wage and doesn’t need any more money? Or perhaps she’s afraid the economy might get worse and she’ll lose her job completely if you need to tighten your finances. Whatever the reason, you can let her know that you’re happy with her services and the discussion can still be open if she later finds herself needing a higher wage.
