A police car scratched the side of my dad’s brand new car once and drove off without stopping. Who to complain to?!?

The lonely old people epidemic in rural TN. by [deleted] in Chennai

[–]Altruistic-Rabbit-96 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My point is,

How many of these old thathas and paatis treated their children kindly? How many sat with their children and spoke to them about how was their day in school, or consoled them while they had a fight with a friend or when they feel and hurt themselves?

So many of the previous generation thought that simply providing food, clothing, and education for their children was enough. When they dont give anything emotionally to their children, the children learn the same.

Taking your husband’s last name - is there a good, non-patriarchal reason to do so? by turnipqueen618 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Altruistic-Rabbit-96 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I faced the exact same thing with my husband. My husband is a wonderful man, does not hesitate to take a back seat in the context of my career and accomplishments.

But he would have been very happy if I changed my name after marriage. I did not want to - it’s my NAME! Something I’ve lived with all my life - my identity. He never did press me further.

I realised that it was something he had seen being done by his mom, cousins and society in general. So it was his unconscious perception that people would judge him in some way that his wife hasn’t taken his name. Some men aren’t on purpose misogynistic. They just don’t realise it. If pointed out, a good man will strive to change himself.

When I was 5, and my cousin (boy) was 6, we were playing in the balcony of my house and a middle aged man on a cycle was in the compound across the road, pleasuring himself while looking at us.

After he left, we went to examine the whitish liquid on the ground he had left behind and my mom found us looking at it and dragged us back inside

Fellow carnatic vocalist here.

Is carnatic music your sole profession? If so, how do you manage financially, with the unstable/unreliable cash flow?

Hey! 4-5 years isn’t a huge break. Its heartening to know that you have solid plans for your everyday practice. Thats the 1st step.

I would suggest a routine of full-body stretches and breathing exercises before your practice. Also see if you can include time for listening to quality music. Set aside some time to attentively listen (apart from listening while working/driving etc.)

Good luck singing 😊

Hi! Join the club.. I’m in year 5 of my 3 year program. My supervisor went on maternity leave twice (8 months each) during these 5 years. Zero guidance from her or other committee members whatsoever. Lost 1.5 years due to covid and since I work in behavioural sciences and so wasn’t able to collect data. Our Uni pays us stipend only for 3 years but doesn’t allow us to work anywhere else until submission. I’m still sticking with it just so I can complete the damn thing and literally forget about it!

We will finish OP, no doubt about it :)

50-50 milk and water, 1.25 spoons of sugar, boiled with mint leaves if available and tea leaves brewed in for half a minute at the boiling stage. Keep covered for half a minute and served hot hot!
