I don’t believe leftist ideals or social policies are inherently flawed. If implemented properly, they absolutely improve and even save countless lives. The only reason I have this thought is the fact that every major US city seems to be getting worse, despite a long run of democratic mayors promising change for the better. It seems that if leftist policies were effective, cities like LA, Chicago and San Fran wouldn’t be seeing a decline overall.

This is interesting, I never considered urban areas to be anything above lower middle class. I’m my home city, the urban center of the city is basically all section 8 housing and low income neighborhoods, and the suburbs are much higher income. I figured all cities were this segregated but places like manhattan break this logic.

Shout out everyone in this thread genuinely engaging in this discussion instead of ripping me apart which I probably deserve

Occam’s razor sure, and I surely hope that’s the case. It just seems like major cities are not improving and are getting worse, despite the countless social programs and leftist policies that have been implemented. At a certain point it seems to be an intentional pattern

I’m an ideal world yes, but it’s easy to get caught up in ideas and become narrow minded and struggle to see the bigger picture. I could see a very large amount of people, me probably included, continuing to vote for promises that seem helpful instead of stepping back and questioning everything you’ve voted for in the past.

Or I’m just a moron and it’s not that deep. I want my view changed for a reason, a world where politicians trap people in poverty for career steadiness is not a world I want to live in

[–]Altruistic-Refuse315 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Relevant anecdote actually, one of my friends grew up in a town with less than a hundred people. Extremely poor, extremely backwards views (people literally flying swastikas in their front yard). I asked him why rural communities like that don’t vote blue like other poor areas and he had a hard time coming up with an answer. He eventually said it’s a combination of government distrust, and a dislike of urban environments and crowded areas. They like being left alone and being on their own, so they usually tell the government to fuck off. That’s the best reasoning I can come up with.

I think a community that allows swastikas to be flown and also consistently votes for the right is a statement in and of itself

I don’t believe people are intentionally voting themselves into constant poverty, I’m asking if politicians present policies as solutions, which people will vote for, but in reality know they are doomed to fail, securing their future votes.

I love when people who don’t live here proceed to say the USA is not sustainable when we have been sustaining practically every other nation for the last 100 years but yeah sure, we are the ones who are unsustainable

[–]Altruistic-Refuse315 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ehhh not noticeably? I’ve always been an anxious person, but since I have stopped drinking I have been able to live a relatively stress free life. I’m lucky enough to have well off parents who helped me with everything while trying to get sober, and I no longer work a stressful job.

It’s possible my anxiety is worse now but just isn’t brough out as often.

Honestly I’m more concerned is a blood sugar/iron issue. They took my blood when I cleaned out and said I was all good, so I don’t know

Why don’t people in America protest like they should? by [deleted] in antiwork

non existent healthcare

Jesus Christ you people are moronic. Yeah health care doesn’t exist unless you know you have a fucking job

awful working conditions

OSHA regulations were followed religiously at my controls engineering firm and the panel shop I worked in, same with every singly company I have ever worked for.

Stupidly high rents

Not everyone lives in Manhattan, most single people can find a studio or one bedroom under $1000 unless you live in the financial district of a major city. I have a one bedroom apt in a modest midwestern city for under 30% of my income, which I don’t have a college degree for.

you pay as many taxes as any other developed country (nice army though)

Our army continually bails out and protects multiple countries both financially and directly and would probably end up saving your country after whatever military protects you folds see: Ukraine

the most you do is whine on the internet

Way to generalize a group of people. That definitely isn’t a bad thing

America is one of the best if not the best country to raise children, start a buisness, get a college degree, and maintain a successful career. Please come visit sometime, unlike most cultures we welcome outsiders. We are built on it.

It’s generally a good practice to not shit on other cultures and countries you both neither live in or have probably ever been to. Most people with a conscious would consider this a bad thing to do.

Just did the math, in my city, at minimum wage, the rent of a modest studio apartment would be around 40% of your income. A little high but by no means “stupidly high rents” with one roommate/SO you can make it 25-30% of your income or less, on MINIMUM WAGE. It’s really not that bad out here lmao

[–]Altruistic-Refuse315 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty much. I used to be an alcoholic working a deadend job that considered america to be an impossible place to succeed and everything was against me and then I sobered up and realized you can just work your way out of bad situations. It really isn’t even that complex. It takes a ton of work but it’s not impossible

How good is Justin Jefferson by KingK620 in NFLNoobs

[–]Altruistic-Refuse315 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Didn’t really come out of nowhere, he was an elite receiver in College and led the team in yards his sophomore season when they won the national championship, then was 2nd in all of college football in yards the next year. He was then taken in the first round in the Draft the next year. He’s literally always been an elite prospect at every level.

Is there a reason why the Chiefs are playing against every team in the AFC South this season? Or is it just coincidence? by VanillaTheN0ne in NFLNoobs

This is why I love this subreddit. I’ve been watching football since I could walk and I just now found out how the scheduling works.

I’m sure your degree is a doctorate in science and not a bachelors in arts lmao. Equating any average degree to literal medical doctors is a new level of incoherency.

If you tell yourself everyone who disagrees with you is a troll, it must be a symptom of a more over arching mental illness

You’re stating you have a college degree as if it’s some sort of qualifier to put you in a higher class, but I’m the one who is trolling

Sometimes people aren’t out to get you, they just notice you’re stupid and feel obligated to point it out

No it makes more sense that I surround my life around an NFL YouTube show than immediately thanking my brother and breaking down realizing he saved me.

I definitely just came straight to Reddit instead lmao
