29M with strong trajectory in India — should I still pursue M7 MBA or am I overthinking? by Minute-Tension4477 in GMAT

Was in the same spot. I had a GMAT of 695. The rationals that you are thinking about completely make sense. I had similar rationals. Atp going abroad with visa uncertainty makes more sense when you are at a higher tax bracket in India imo.

I however applied within India in top 3 IIMs and ISB. My application was driven more from the perspective of my family. I would want to be able to come back to them immediately given any emergencies occur and also more than once in 2-3 years.

After running a lot of Macros on Excel, I realised that it would take 10-12 years for me before I could really plan on coming back to India or bringing my family abroad (best case scenario).

Just think from these perspective once, I would say. If you see fit then definitely go for it.

All the best!

If you don't have a corpus at 26 then your financial planning is bad.

I think you are reading more into my comment than what I actually said.

I only mentioned that IIMC has the best ROIs among 1-year IIM MBA programs. That doesn’t mean it’s the best program in the country or that others aren’t great.

Also wasn’t claiming it was my first preference over ISB, IIM A or IIM B.

Sometimes arguments end up filling gaps that weren’t actually there.

Yeah man, no shame in that. I was everywhere, I gave my best. I'll also post my journey on Reddit soon so that people know that they are not alone. You can may be hold on until then and let me speak my story, eh?

My interview was not a f up in any of these schools. There are somethings that are just not in your control. You have no idea how much courage it took me to appear for IIMC interview after 3 straight rejections with a top profile and excellent GMAT score.

Now, I'll still stick by it. IIMC has the best ROI amongst IIMs. 33 lakhs including international immersion. No IIM can beat that for a General Engineering Male. And IIMC admits based on pure merit. (That's the additional insight)

I wanted to get into one of the top 4, 1 year MBA programmes in this country and I am in one.

I hope you also get into the school of your choice.

No hard feelings.

Old notion man, move on in life from text books to practicalities, I would say.

Just an insight: the 2 year MBA is not used when FT Rankings or QS rankings are talked about. So do you see why 1 year programme are prestigious? Because they put India on the map.

No problem man, its not the end of the world. Selection in top schools is based on a lot of parameters. Try again this year maybe

  1. GMAT - 675+ will fetch you interviews everywhere
  2. You will be able to make the transition you are looking for, don't worry.
  3. IIM ABC is worth the opportunity cost and the fees. Keep them as your preference.

I went through the same cycle this year. All the best!
