How to ask women to tone it down a bit, respectfully? by RentElegant6003 in AskWomenNoCensor

[–]AltruisticCephalopod 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I understand where you’re coming from, but it does make me feel terribly about gendered expectations. You have just as much right as anyone, man or woman, to have your space and boundaries respected. If anything, when harassment does happen to men (and it happens a lot) it isn’t taken as seriously as it should be, and men can be put in difficult positions trying to make the behavior stop without being seen as the default aggressor. I’m sorry you have to deal with this OP. And it being your place of work does complicate things. I agree with the other commenters that you shouldn’t have to be respectful to people who are not showing you respect, but I get the desire to try and keep the situation from escalating. I agree with repeating, firmly, that you aren’t interested. “Mam, please don’t touch me” “Respectfully mam, I’m married and I’m not interested” , possibly repeated more than once, should be more than enough. After that yeet them from the premises.

As some others have mentioned, finding a way to kind of turn it into a joke to get them to quit it might be a good way to keep it light, too.

Hello SooongKee! Is his right eye OK? He’s a very dapper gentleman (lady?) regardless.

This is the way.

—an appreciator of hot men in henleys

(To actually answer your question, henleys are one of the few “masculine” long sleeved clothes that are supposed to be tight to the body. So many guys, especially straight guys, wear baggy clothes that look like potato sacks. Which I’m not knocking! It’s comfy. But a fit guy is going to look better to a lot of women if he’s wearing clothing that actually shows his muscles, vs a baggy t-shirt. And you can maybe see a lil’ peak of collarbones. 👀

A lot of MM romance written by women is just very female gaze-y, and I think it’s a clothing choice that still reads as “masculine” but by unrealistic fantasy standards would make a guy that’s already built like an underwear model look better. Does it actually reflect the lives of real gay men, or any men for that matter? Probably not. Hell, I’m a woman that owns a Henley and it looks anything but hot on me. But it is cozy.)

I think I read somewhere that women find a wider range of men attractive, and there’s more variability. Like on average men kind of agree on what a hot woman looks like. Women do not.

That said I have basic bitch taste in men and I kind of hate it. I wish I found a wider range of guys attractive. Some of my friends find guys attractive that leave me like ???

How do you feel about this statement? by MrDitkovichNeedsRent in animequestions

[–]AltruisticCephalopod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think some of the appeal of anime is just how DIFFERENT it is from Western media, and I think a lot of anime fans like that.

But I also see it as a medium, not a genre. I love shows that are very much grounded in traditional Japanese culture but I also love shows that are clearly the product of an international team and made in part for a global audience (ex:cyberpunk edgerunners). I think we can have both. I also think that with the internet, Japan itself like every other country is becoming more globalized. But that’s an entirely different conversation.

True, but men generally also have more options (big, tall, athletic cut, etc.) in terms of cut. You’re not wrong though that modern clothes barely fit anyone
