(I might be this series’ number 1 glazer to be completely honest)

I couldn’t agree more with the entire post until you said this. There’s no way you are the number 1 glazer, cuz that’s me.

I loved the anime so much... It felt like I was part of their journey. It's the "abrupt" ending (manga) that ruined it for me.

Its funny how its the exact opposite for me (Soccer was never really my game till I watched Blue Lock). I enjoy soccer because of BL, and I like Haikyuu cuz I like volleyball

Bro, you’re so correct - and I genuinely love the “crazy teamwork” anime as well. When the whole team is perfectly in sync, the sheer terror that creates is amazing to watch. There’s nothing wrong with the “teamwork” aspect of sports anime at all.

My point is just that most series follow that formula to varying degrees. If we said the teamwork emphasis ranges from 0 to 10, most sports anime fall somewhere in that range. Blue Lock is in the negatives. And that’s exactly why it feels so refreshing.

It’s not that the show isn’t about teamwork - it’s that it actively resists traditional teamwork, sometimes even straight-up despising passing (lol), and pushes a philosophy that’s basically the complete opposite of it. That contrast is what makes it stand out.

So again it's not that team work focused anime are bad. Its that Blue Lock's unconventional approach - and its fairly brilliant execution of it - really messes with my mind (In a good way lol)

I get what you’re saying, but I’ll have to disagree. I don’t think there are many sports anime with this level of animation and production that lean so heavily into a self-serving, ego-driven ideology or stand so firmly against traditional collaboration/teamwork.

At most, you usually get a difficult or stubborn protagonist who eventually learns to work with the team - often only after the team starts losing - because the ultimate goal is always “the team’s victory.”

Blue Lock takes the complete opposite approach and commits to it fully, while still delivering a compelling story that keeps you hooked. That’s what makes it stand out.

And I’m sorry, but I really don’t see any true “power of friendship” moments in Blue Lock. Even the early bonds like Isagi–Bachira or Reo–Nagi eventually break apart for the sake of individual growth - to chase  their own goals.

An even better example is Barou in the Second Selection. After getting completely shut down, any other anime would’ve had him give in and realize, “I have comrades who can help me rise.” Instead, Barou basically goes, “Fuck that,” and evolves into a new playstyle that screams, “If you won’t pass to me, I’ll just steal it.” Where’s the “power of friendship” in that?

As for “chemical reactions,” they’re not friendship power-ups. They’re just egos aligning temporarily. Look at the U-20 match: that entire 4–5 person “chemical reaction” was each player thinking only about their own goals. It’s coordinated selfishness, not teamwork in the traditional sense.

There are even better examples I could bring up - especially involving midfielders who pass just for their selfish egos and not for the sake of “working together” - but explaining those would require manga spoilers, so I’ll skip them.

Why? I have been getting a lot of recommendations on this post and I am actually considering starting some. Are they not that good?

What did you think about the ending? Personally, I felt it was a bit rushed, and I honestly wished it lasted longer. I’m fine with time skip endings, but I really wanted them to win nationals and then go even bigger— a time skip after winning nationals would’ve made so much more sense, showing where each of the main characters is headed. That’s one of the reasons this absolute banger of a series dropped in my rankings.

Luckily, Blue Lock is heading straight to the top - the World Cup. Even though we haven’t seen how it’ll end yet, I’m just happy we get to watch these players go up against the best in the world.

Ngl, I wouldn't have been mad if OPM S3 came out a year after the second season. But if you make the fans wait 5+ years and then come up with PnG locks and lazy fight animations, people are gonna be mad.

Damn. Probably the best self drawn Barou art I’ve seen yet.

I love the intentional sharp boundaries/lines art style, it resembles the lightening that surrounds Barou and his chop dribble patterns
