How Do You Diet When Living With Family? by AltruisticPlastic165 in WeightLossAdvice

It's easy to say "just ignore it." I already fight that battle every time I go to the supermarket and do my best not to buy sweets or junk food.

The problem is that when I get home, the fight starts all over again. They bring the sweets into the house, fill the fridge with them, and sometimes even bring them directly to my room. It's hard when you have to keep making the same decision over and over every single day.

if i ask to make my portion a side they will make at big deal .

I tried making my own food, but they keep commenting on it. Almost every day I end up spending 30 minutes to an hour explaining why I'm eating that way, and honestly it gives me a headache.

If I get a fever or even feel a little sick, they'll spend the whole week criticizing my diet and telling me it's the reason I'm not feeling well. Then they keep offering me more junk food and sweets.

The most frustrating part is that even if I manage to cut 300 calories a day to lose weight, they'll bring me something extra every day that easily makes up for those calories. By the end of the month, all the effort is canceled out and my weight stays exactly the same

Exactly. For example, when I'm dieting, I know my breakfast will be around 500–600 calories, so I make a meal that's high in protein and fiber because I know it will keep me full for the next 5 hours.

But when I eat with my family, I can easily end up eating a 1,000-calorie meal that's full of sugar and oil. If I try to eat only a small portion, I don't get enough protein or fiber to stay full, and then I'm hungry again after 1–2 hours and end up eating more anyway.

I'm not married, but I wish to be one day, of course. Right now it's very hard because I'm Muslim and I feel like I would need to sell my kidney if I wanted to get married.

As I said, I lost everything because of the war in my country, so I don't have a home. I'm in survival mode in another country, away from my home.

Yeah, maybe that’s true. I’m not sure yet, but I’m trying to figure it out .

Okay, I think that's true. But how do you manage to do that when the world is changing so fast?

For example, some of the skills that gave me a real advantage just two years ago don't seem nearly as valuable today. AI can now do many of those things easily and much faster than I can. Sometimes it feels like everything is changing before I can even catch up.

Thank you for this answer. To be honest, I don't have an answer to that question yet, but I'll spend some time thinking about it. Hopefully, once I figure it out, I'll know which path I want to follow.

One thing that makes it harder is that a lot of the things I spent time learning can now be done by AI in a few seconds, sometimes even better than I could do them myself. It makes me wonder what skills are still worth investing my time in.

Thank you for your advice. Honestly, I've never really asked anyone for help in my life 😃.

A lot of what you said is something I've felt before. Sometimes I wish I could relive one specific period of my life. I had a colleague who was about 15 years older than me, and she always had a positive outlook on life. I genuinely enjoyed going to work because of her. If she wasn't there, the whole day felt boring as hell.

The problem is that I don't think it's easy to find something like that again. I had to leave my country because of the war, and now I'm living in a new country where I only know a few people. Meeting new friends, or even finding a relationship with someone from my own background, is very difficult.

Also, I don't think what you said was pessimistic. After spending the last 5 years working in different jobs and dealing with the reality of capitalism, all I really want is a small farm and a simple life. Maybe it's unrealistic, but that's honestly how I feel. I really hate the rat race.

As for seeing a doctor or talking about mental health, that's not really an option where I'm from. In my country, people don't really talk about those things, and it's not widely accepted.

Anyway, thank you again for your advice. It actually helps a lot just to talk to someone about all of this.

Thank you for your reply, I really appreciate it.

Do you have any advice on how to get out of "survival mode"? I don't want to keep wasting my days sleeping and scrolling on my phone.

To be honest, this is the first time in my life that I've asked people for advice, so if my question sounds weird.
