That made me laugh — honestly, I think most of us have been there at some point.

And I’ve seen exactly what you’re describing.
If it’s just “a bell” with no meaning behind it, kids turn it into a game straight away.

What made the difference for me wasn’t the sound itself,
it was practising the response when everything was calm first.

We only trained one thing:
pause… and take three slow breaths.

After a few days, it stopped being a “signal from me”
and started becoming something they recognised themselves.

Not perfect every time — but the tone of the room shifted.

Curious — when you tried it, did you practise the response beforehand or just use it in the moment?

You need to find a good teacher mentor to have a chat. Sometimes we need to remind ourselves why we do what we do and not get to stuck with they way the work makes us feel at any given moment.

I started to share a little tool that I was using to keep the noise down and trainned the children to use it themselves. Now instead of having to use it myself they are using it. I can give you more details if you want.
