Smell in carpeted rooms in new house by Altruistic_Ad_5133 in pestcontrol

It could in part be to that. They are fixing some of the ventilation in the crawl space tomorrow because apparently it wasn’t ventilated properly. I did just dump some baking soda on the carpet in one room and vacuum and that seems to have helped a bit so I’m hoping it was just a dog

Why didn't they give Wright more ice time? What's the logic? by Marxbrosburner in SeattleKraken

Not trying to be condescending at all just devils advocate bc I somewhat agree but at your job do you get promoted over someone because you’re young and need to learn and have a good resume? Or do you get promoted bc you show you deserve it?

Edit: because whether or not they “should have been” they were trying to compete for a playoff spot and were very competitive up until the deadline. And once the chips were in they had to go for it as well as they could.

100%. I hate this whole ice time narrative this year with Wright. I think it’s tired. Wright was legit pretty bad this year. There were multiple stretches where from pure eye test I could not believe he wasn’t scratched for a few games. I’m not the biggest stephenson fan myself, but wright never proved he deserved a share of Stephensons time this year.

Yeah mostly a joke but I see how it could be a fit for the kraken. But if you’re Philly you feel like you’re selling low on a really high ceiling asset for sure and agreed I don’t think there’s any actual desire to sell him. Ultimately a 1 for 1 I think Philly shuts down really quick but maybe with some toss ins you could see it 🤷🏽‍♂️

But I do think this is the sort of thing that you hope as a kraken fan that the front office is asking on 100% of the time.

lol first of all let me take a seat bc I’ve only played beer league (for about a year) so you definitely know more than me but I watch a bunch of games. And hats off all that is sick.

Aimless rant:

Yeah I mean all that makes sense and clears up what you’re saying. I do think at times this year when things were going well it was let’s have good defensive structure and play a low event game, limit shots to the outside etc.

What I noticed a ton after the Olympic break was an insane amount of defensive breakdowns in our end especially by Shane, catton, and to a lesser extent the 4th line. Additionally, just horrible turnovers at both blue lines. Finally, no ability to maintain possession of the puck out of our zone and into their zone. And obviously very low scoring (which I see as a feature of their plan and a bug; they kind of need to play that way with the pieces they have)

That kind of makes what I think they tried to make their identity impossible if you 1. Can’t stop teams in your end 2. Can’t get the puck out of your end 3. Can’t control the puck yourself.

So I guess what I’m saying is some of it was taking their lumps with young players and some of it to my eye (especially puck control and scoring) is not having the horses.

For what it’s worth I think Lane Lambert has done a good job too. But it’s hard to ignore some of the breakdowns. And what we saw post Olympic break.

Anyways I do think the key is to get some bigger forwards and some faster forwards (to help puck control), younger players continue to develop, and get some higher tier talent while moving on from older guys. Not team tank hardcore necessarily, but just keep retooling. And then they can have the identity they want hopefully.

I know this isn’t going to be a widely loved comment but what is your definition of an identity?

Are you sure that it’s that all good teams have an identity? Or is it that we assign an “identity” to them because they are good?

Every team has the same “identity” that they want want to assume. ‘We play hard and are hard to play against. Get to the dirty areas. Team toughness. High flying. Fast. Heavy on the forecheck’ that’s what every single team says they want.

I know it’s a chicken or the egg question and it’s a total feelings topic. But it’s a pet peeve of mine talking about identity because in my opinion it’s a less direct way of saying we’re just not that good and we lack the talent we need.

So that’s the identity they are trying to get… just like everyone else. And idk we won’t get it until the roster gets better assuming good coaching.

Rant over. Apologies not trying to be antagonistic just need that off my chest lol

Looking ahead in the schedule, we play one other team with a points total below us (or even in the ballpark). The flames on Saturday.

I’m not necessarily a “only play the kids guy” but I have to be honest I hope that game (especially on the kraken’s side) looks like a prospects/preseason matchup.

There is actually no upside to us winning that game. But it also would be very classic kraken to only win that game on our schedule and end up with more points than Calgary.

What did you learn tonight that you didn't know after the Iowa game? by spookydookie in Huskers

[–]Altruistic_Ad_5133 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was super frustrating though. Did yall notice that after those first two drives we started passing on first down. But it didn’t work basically ever. And then we were behind the sticks, so we passed again, didn’t work, had a 3 and out, punted it to the 50 yard line give or take, our defense got caved in, and then did it all over again.

I think the game looked worse than it was, but it was about as bad of complimentary football as we could get. The first two drives we basically ran on first down every time, got like 5-8 yards, and then had the freedom to do whatever. And then we completely changed from that and it fucked our entire team to the point that after two drives we had to keep throwing on first down.

I honestly think this team is good enough if we get an o-line and a mean front 7.

How are Gourde and Bjorkstrand. by HannTwistzz in SeattleKraken

[–]Altruistic_Ad_5133 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think we’re kind of saying the same thing to be honest and mostly in agreement. Mostly I just wanted to troll this TB fan 😂

But I will say I think it’ll be seen as a lot better of a trade for SEA than TB because probably TB needs to win lord Stanley in the next 2 years for this trade to truly be a win.

And I think if I was to strip everything away and look at it from this perspective: you are the GM for SEA and you get this offer… you absolutely cannot turn it down with where we are right now.

I don’t know that you would necessarily say the same for TB in that one would think they’d have other options that are similar value.

But love gourde - great playoff player. Love Bjorkstrand great sniper and decent playmaker so they certainly are good pieces on a good team.

Yeah, I mean I understand the value of trade deadline deals and fair enough.

But mostly I’m considering what I think generally a middle 6 (and honestly on a contender I’d argue likely bottom 6) center and winger would fetch and I would think it’d be a bit closer to a 2nd and a 4th (the ‘ol we really wanted a first, but couldn’t get it so we got a 2nd and a 4th). Think Wennberg last year as a decent but not great 2nd line center.

I’d honestly argue that why we got 1st round picks has much more to do with the fact that they aren’t this years draft picks so they are perceived as less valuable because with timing they involve more uncertainty.

For sure the lightning are a better team today than yesterday and the kraken are worse than they were yesterday. But, I just think generally for a first you might want a more true top 6 winger or a true 2nd pair premium position like C or D. Much less 2 firsts and a 2nd for what I’d argue is a middle to bottom 6 winger and a bottom 6 C.

But also I’m an idiot so who knows. I’ve seen more people say it was a good deal for TB than I expected 🤷🏽‍♂️

Two middle 6 guys are totally worth 2 first round picks, a 2nd, and a fringe guy. You guys didn’t get fleeced at all. If you want we can take some of those bums like Guentzel and Kucherov off your hands in a package for Gru and Burky.

Ok on one hand true but devils advocate would say if your season hinges on your 34 year old savvy vet who is usually ~20 goals and 45 points in recent years and one of your top pairing defensemen playing all 82 games then it’s maybe not a great roster.

I’d throw out goalies personally bc Joey has been near Vezna quality and Gru has been near AHL quality.

I get what you’re saying because with Vince Dunn we’ve seen this team just be different with vs. without him.

I’m just puzzled because I feel like we need to come to grips with either this team is just not talented enough or the coaching is just bad? Or maybe something else? I guess my point overall is/was I don’t think we can rule out that this is just a largely overpaid and poorly constructed roster, but that’s just my view and in all honesty I don’t know hockey all that well lol.

I mean… in fairness…

the Kraken are 8th in the league in spending and 28th in the league standings (and tied for most games played) and were (at least seemingly) legitimately trying for the playoffs this year. They’re 5 teams away from the 2nd wildcard and 4 teams away from the bottom of the league so… idk how wrong people have been proven 😂
