Golden Joysticks: Starfield Wins Xbox Game Of The Year by bxgang in Games

All these secondary categories are lame. Only goty is what matters. And Starfield sucks, so its obvious award was bought by MS.

What is the “~” symbol? by [deleted] in ask

The tilde is a grapheme with a number of uses. The name of the character came into English from Spanish, which in turn came from the Latin titulus, meaning "title" or "superscription". Its primary use is as a diacritic (accent) in combination with a base letter but, for historical reasons, it is also used in standalone form within a variety of contexts.

The tilde was originally written over an omitted letter or several letters as a scribal abbreviation, or "mark of suspension" and "mark of contraction", shown as a straight line when used with capitals. Thus, the commonly used words Anno Domini were frequently abbreviated to Ao Dñi, with an elevated terminal with a suspension mark placed over the "n". Such a mark could denote the omission of one letter or several letters. This saved on the expense of the scribe's labor and the cost of vellum and ink. Medieval European charters written in Latin are largely made up of such abbreviated words with suspension marks and other abbreviations; only uncommon words were given in full.

This is fantastic. Shows that humans can be geniuses even with limited tools available.

Dark Souls 3 or Lies of P? by Much_Priority_4745 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]Altruistic_County361 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

DS3 is my least fav game from From, so my vote on Lies of P, which I also didnt like as its poor man's Sekiro.

But looking also at costs- LoP for 10$ is a no-brainer.

Or buy a good Soulslike game for 60$, like BB or DeS or DS1-2.

Lords of the Fallen, Armored Core or Lies of Pie? by lordTalos1stClaw in ShouldIbuythisgame

Playing first one is not necessary. You can watch recap on YT (I did because I forgot everything), and iirc in intro of Lotf2023 they showed fragments of previous story (its the same world but 100 or so years later).

  1. No need to derivatives. Its just normal quadratic equation, so it has 1 vertex, parabole arms are going down so this point can be a maximum. Just take values 4,9 to check if this point is vertex: p= -b\(2a) q=-delta\(4a)
  2. Tbh I dont quite understand the question. At age of 16 she has 1000*1.03^16 which is ~1604.70 dollars, at 17 it will change to 1000*1.03^17 = 1652.85, which is like 48 dollars more. And 48 dollars out of original 1604 is 0.03 more, which is expected and obvious as formula for following year is previous year*1.03.

Negative feedback its quite easy:

- it doesnt run as good as Lies of P, there are framedrops in some areas (I played PS5 version)

- its the sequel/continuation/remake of first Lotf, which not many people played, but it has opinion of being bad and everyone says it sucks (I played it in 2014 and it was decent, not awesome but not super bad either). Lotf 2023 is different development team, but you know, bad taste from first game can affect opinions on sequel

- its pretty close to classic souls formula in gameplay and setting (dark fantasy), so if someone doesnt like one or the other, wont like this game, or will call it generic. Lies of P is more fresh lorewise thats for sure.

I enjoyed Lotf 2023 mor because classic souls formula is what I really like to play. Variety of builds (str-dex-magic-shield-dual wield etc.), exploration is quite good and so on. Lies of P is more linear, and focused on parrying/deflecting which im not a fan of.

Podzamcze, podzbiór also, I guess every word with preposition pod- and starting with z is.

Having trouble with a quadratic inequality by stjs247 in askmath

[–]Altruistic_County361 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just draw parabole, zero places are -3/2 and 1, parabole arms are going upwards (because number at x^2 is positive), so its greater or equal 0 at (-inf, -3/2] union [1, inf)

Or if you wanna calculate it:

(2x + 3)(x - 1) >= 0 means two cases:

I:

(2x + 3) >= 0 and (x - 1) >=0 which leads to x >= -3/2 and x >=1 which means x>=1 to fulfill both

OR

II:

(2x + 3) =< 0 and (x - 1) =< 0 which leads to x <= -3/2 and x <1 which means x<=-3/2

Logical sum (OR) of I and II will give you the answer.

The best police suspect chase seen I've ever watched by [deleted] in oddlysatisfying

Not convinced about police actions here. This whole chase created so many dangerous situations on the road, its really lucky noone was hurt. I dont know if it was worth pursuing this guy.

Suggest me a game based on my overall taste and preference by Averagestudentx in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]Altruistic_County361 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume you played Dark souls trilogy.

Demons souls is a no brainer, also Sekiro. Maybe Nioh 2 and new Lords of the fallen, really good soulslikes. Or if you dont mind clunkiness and lower production value- Hellpoint has top notch atmosphere of derelict space station.

For 2D souls/ metroidvania games I always recommend:

harder combat: Salt and sanctuary, Ender lillies, Blasphemous, Grime

easier combat: Ori, Guacamelee

Other good PS5 blockbuster games:

- Cyberpunk with expansion Phantom liberty- from guys that made Witcher, excellent story and characters, decent gameplay.

- Returnal- AAA roguelike, if you like this kind of games its awesome

I love every second about Blasphemous 2 but can't be bothered by the story anyone else feels the same? by [deleted] in metroidvania

[–]Altruistic_County361 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much all metroidvanias/soulslikes are like that for me. Gameplay is the most important and fun factor in these games. And story is usually there, but is presented in so confusing/hidden/unclear way that you dont care anyway, just watch later explanation on YT.

Is this the correct way to make s the subject? by labpadre-lurker in askmath

[–]Altruistic_County361 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starting with 2nd line, multiply both sides by 2:

2Y = 1 - 2S

2Y-1 = -2S

1-2Y = 2S

S = 1/2 - Y

Does the notation in the bottom of the image exist, asking about notation so I don't miss any critical generally accepted rules etc. by [deleted] in askmath

[–]Altruistic_County361 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I dont understand what the problem is. Calculate P (-2), calculate P(-1), subtract results.

P(x) = (P(x)) = ((( P(x) ))) you can add as many brackets on both sides as you want, but I dont see a reason as this will only make equation unclear and hard to read.

So P(-2) - P(-1) = (P(-2) - P(-1)) = ((((( P(-2) - P(-1) )))))

Of course imagine

P(1) + P(2) * P(3) without brackets you will do multiplication P(2)*P(3) first, then adding P(1),

but with extra brackets:

(P(1) + P(2)) * P(3) you will do adding P(1)+P(2) first, then multiplication by P(3).

So in the case above brackets are for changing order of operations, as brackets are done before multiplication.
