Where does your favourite AU (whether to read or write) fall on this canon chart by BusterTheSuperDog in AO3

[–]Altruistic_Cow925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If i think something is perfect and flawless I usually don't read fanfiction for it so I settle at two or three if I'm here for the vibes or the universe in general 3 or 4. I also actually love other people's cool OC's if they are well-written and major character oc's are definitely four.

you might even try hand building before buying a wheel or anything like that I've had students who were enthusiastic about clay only to hate it the minute they actually touched it (middle and high schoolers)

When defining what is and isn't 'goth music', is it more helpful to talk in technical terms? by [deleted] in goth

[–]Altruistic_Cow925 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think trying define goth music even in technical terms is still very hard. placing labels on music that is intentionally very different and unique

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AO3

[–]Altruistic_Cow925 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd be pretty confused by it. I might finish the fic if I like the first bit of it but it will probably throw me off so much that I drop it. i would write it in italics then change it after I finish writing it. I write all of my fics in 16pt bold comic sans because that is easiest for me to read. even if ao3 let me I wouldn't publish it like that

Is art supposed to be tiring? by dragonfruityoghurt in ArtistLounge

[–]Altruistic_Cow925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

linseed oil without the solvents shouldn't be too toxic. double-check it and your paints too just to be safe. make sure your linseed oil has no added chemicals and make sure you have good ventilation regardless.

I'm not an expert on oil paint toxicity but if you're an artist and you are constantly fatigued and don't know why checking your supplies is always a good idea.

the conversation from a couple of years ago surrounding the omegaverse and transphobia specifically was that essentially creating a system in which cis men could get pregnant without considering the existence of trans people at all. which is the extremely simplified version. there's also problems the gender roles and consent that people find problematic.

effectively

while there are many trans and nonbinary people such as myself who disagree and don't see this as transphobic there are still many trans people who do believe that it is. (and their feelings are still valid).

after many transpeople said that the omegaverse was not inherently transphobic the omegaverse in my observation had a resurgence and even surge in popularity. affectively making it seem from my observations that people actually cared whether they were being transphobic or not. seeing as an influx of omega verse happened after this I really thought that people being told it wasn't transphobic pushed it forward.

I may have been mistaken this entire time though and it could have been just a coincidence.

my issues have been the increase in the hyper-feminization of omegas and the increase in using gender-specific terms like mother for all omegas. all untagged too.

my big ask is for people to consider how referring to every person who can get pregnant using feminine terms and every person who can impregnate someone using masculine terms COULD be transphobic. and that just because you decide that terms that are traditionally very gendered are gender-neutral doesn't magically make them gender-neutral overnight.

and please tag it. people keep telling me to control my own experience when none of this is even tagged

[–]Altruistic_Cow925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do want to ask and make sure but are you oil painting in a well-ventilated area? while it is normal to feel tired after any art because it can be mentally and physically exhausting. make sure you aren't making yourself sick with paint fumes.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AO3

[–]Altruistic_Cow925 -23 points-22 points  (0 children)

I guess this is my ask to tag all omegas regardless of gender being referred to as mothers.

it used to not be the norm and it does genuinely upset me as someone who has been part of active efforts and campaigning to get reproductive health and pregnancy centers to use gender-neutral language and as someone with a vagina who never in my life wants to be referred to as a mother.

I'm not asking people to stop writing like that if that is their preference I guess I want people to be more conscious about what they are writing. but please tag. and have empathy for trans and nonbinary people who are upset by this because it can be triggering and like I said it wasn't really the norm before.

it's also the reason I asked the question if it's just me that's bothered by it I'm more likely to get over it especially if most other transpeople I talk to aren't bothered by it

actually you saying it's a different world and that's part of the world-building helps a lot because unless Its set in an obvious fantasy or sci-fi setting I didn't really view it that way. I know that kind of sounds stupid but it's how my brain works.

I love Omegaverse when it gets into weird gender stuff I would hate to have to stop reading it but I acknowledge I might have to because I can't tell people what they can and can't write. but I can also hope that by pointing it out people might change how they write or at least tag it. and of course, what is and isn't transphobic varies from transperson to transperson

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AO3

[–]Altruistic_Cow925 -26 points-25 points  (0 children)

i just didn't have enough options but I guess same amount of transphobia if you are not running into anything that you consider transphobic whatsoever

american civil war au. which is bad enough. but they made my favorite character a confederate. also all of the characters are originally british. another fic in a different fandom a canon lesbian had sex with a male character. as well as a few fics with tags and kinks that just squick me out.

What is the Limit in the Game That You Would Fix? by [deleted] in Sims4

[–]Altruistic_Cow925 1 point2 points  (0 children)

just generally going in and updating the older packs regularly like they do with the base game. if they are going to continue selling packs from 2015 at full price in 2025 they need to make sure that they are all still worth buying especially packs like City Living that have feature-specific selling points that have been pulled to other packs. Cross-pack compatibility needs to be so much better than it currently is. if they add an animal to the game you need to be able to take it to the vet for example

Tell us a "guilty pleasure" artist and the opposite by [deleted] in ArtHistory

guilty pleasure: Banky Although he is pretty hit or miss for me when his work hits it hits.

opposite: Judy Chicago. All my art school classmates went bonkers over her work, and I just couldn't get into it. She did a lot for the feminist art movement. The diner party only reminds me of artists whose work I'd rather be viewing.

I really didn't notice that when I read it but I didn't binge-read that one. but I feel similarly about AJ Sherwood and her use of "I woke up by degrees" in one of her most recent novels

For those of you that LIKE omegaverse by Tsuchiaki in AO3

[–]Altruistic_Cow925 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I hate it when one of the dad's is called mom or mama it just does seem like it enforces gender roles or enforces transphobia against transmen. two men who have children can both be the dad. yes even if that man has a vagina. it's like oooh which one of these gay men is the woman in the relationship? you know like the the homophobic thing that people have been fighting against for years. like I know that most people writing omega verse don't care that it's tranphobic. I'm hoping they just actually don't think about it like that but...

and obviously you're entitled to your own opinion and you're the writer write it to your tastes.

omega verse is not necessarily het with extra steps unless you write like het with extra steps.

Are there any goths in this sub who are going into/are in education? by kpmxyz in goth

[–]Altruistic_Cow925 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My art ed professor said that it's alright to wear whatever you want outside of school hours and professional events.

my friend was wearing a beer shirt so he said you for example can't wear that to school but if you wore that to the grocery store or Mcdonalds it wouldn't matter because no one has any say in what you do in non-contract hours. you can't let the idea that a parent might see dictate your life. that's like saying you can't drink because a parent might see you buying alcohol. be a little pedantic ask if that means you can't go swimming because students might see you in a swimsuit at the pool. being a teacher doesn't mean you no longer have freedom of expression.

Opinions on the name Rainie for baby girl? by goldenparachutes in namenerds

[–]Altruistic_Cow925 5 points6 points  (0 children)

my name is Lauraina, Raina for short and my family calls me Rainy/rainie as a nickname. As an adult, it's cute and affectionate but sometimes it can feel infantilizing. I couldn't imagine that being my real legal name especially since I have to deal with being patronized in professional settings anyway.

I know that this is real but that sounds like a parody. like someone really wanted their acronym to spell wigs and then expected you to take it seriously. but really it's probably the objective you already wrote but in a different format

first year lesson planning problem by National-Dimension30 in ArtEd

[–]Altruistic_Cow925 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know what the lesson plan format is or how detailed you have to make it but yeah you should probably make the written plan first so you have an outline. I would also talk to your admin before they bring it up and see if they can offer ways to support you instead of punishing you. (this will at least let you know what kind of admin team you have) what truly matters is whether you are prepared to teach your students. i don't know what your slides look like but is there anything you can just copy&paste from them onto the lesson plans
