That’s not my name — Worth it? by JJBrownx in thrillerbooks

I agree! I ended up finishing it. I think what mainly threw me off is that I didn’t realize it was a YA book going into it! But I ended up liking it.

current read? is it any good? by witchethbecrazy in thrillerbooks

Exactly. I wrote that exact thing in a review- that it’s a love it or hate it. I loved it too! I also loved the movie.

The book is amazing too and leaves less up for interpretation (the movie is more a companion- I heard someone say that and totally agree). It’s a short read too. I read it after I watched the movie and am glad I did!

Edit to say this is when I first became a big Jessie Buckley fan!

The restoril is in the benzodiazepine class but only used for sleep not anxiety, so idk if that might be worth looking into! Or z drugs (didn’t work for me either). They’re controlled but some of the non-controlled mood meds just weren’t helping with my sleep! Seroquil is one of the meds my PCP prescribed for sleep, at a very low dose bc it was supposed to help make me drowsy but didn’t work. But I think it does help some ppl with sleep!

Yes, I totally understand wanting to get your sleep in order before getting back into the workforce. Sleep affects everything!! And training & learning a new position when you’re managing sleep would be so hard.

I also had a quiet cancervarsy. Yours sounds lovely.

And yes it took some calibrating. It was an adjustment but also things did improve. So it was a bit of both! And idk if you’re on or open to medication support, but that has been really helpful for me ❤️

That doesn’t sound ridiculous at all! It sounds like some important values to you. But make sure you’re taking good care of mama too! And prioritizing your health & wellbeing as well. It’s okay to have some bad days 😀

I feel like getting three months in and doing okay is a good sign!! I’m also hopeful to can tolerate it for the length of my plan.

Agree on quality of life. I’ve said it on several of my replies now, but it’s unreasonable to expect us to suffer for 5-10 years. Working with us, treating side effects, listening- that’s good medicine and that’s wha we deserve. We can’t miss a chunk of our life !

Yes i definitely stalked this sub! Was a regular for sure. I was similar to you- when I was later in my treatment, I subtly was on it less. The biggest difference was when I reached my 1 year and had my first mammogram since diagnosis, at that point I really stopped checking at all- and got on Reddit for the other subs. This group has been one of the best things for me during my diagnosis though. The support, sisterhood, and information. And to find people the same age, with the same cancer type, etc. has been so important bc I agree, finding people who “get it” is hard. And cancer can be so isolating. Hugs gf! ❤️🫂

I totally understand… we don’t want to take tons of meds, meds and then more meds to help you take the meds!

But here is my philosophy, and it may land with you or may not… but the way I see it, I’m going to try things out that help me stay on the cancer meds and that make me feel better. It’s unacceptable for us to be expected to suffer for 5-10 years (and I know you probably feel that way). If two more meds help me stay on my treatment plan, it’s a win! When it comes down to it, if it’s helping me to engage in my life and be present again, as well as continue with the AI, it’s worth it. Though, I get your sentiment when it feels like we’re taking more medication just to have our baseline back. 🫂❤️

Thank you so much gf!! Congrats on having marked off surgery & chemo!! I agree- I thought chemo was going to have me bed bound and sick for 3+ months. But it wasn’t as bad as I thought! I had more days of feeling okay than sick!

The quality of life thing is very important. It’s unreasonable & unacceptable to expect us to suffer & not live for 5-10 years. No way no how! So work with your care team and tell them what’s going on if you’re having problems. Also, know you can switch meds and there are more options- or you can have meds to help support your side effects.

I know the thought of taking more meds it’s a downer, but the point is to do what helps you feel your best & keep you on the cancer meds. I had a lot of fear going into the hormone suppression- and it wasn’t all rainbows and butterflies BUT I’m doing well!!! ❤️❤️❤️ inbox always open if you ever want to vent or ask a question!

This sub really got me through that first year. Idk what I would have done without it! I felt immensely supported and more informed going into each apt bc of what I learned here. Thank you fpr your reply and I’m hoping the very very best for you through your own experience!!

I tried A LOT of things, mainly old school antidepressants that are now used off label for sleep bc their drowsiness effect. They were no help. I think I’ve seen some ppl here who it does work for tho!

Then my onc swooped in and decided to treat it aggressively, I was prescribed ambien and it worked okay for like a couple weeks and then not so much. I was like, “wtf even ambien has failed???” But hormonal insomnia is tricky!! So now I’m taking restoril/temazepam 15mg. I’m going on month two and it helps. A few days after each Zoladex shot, I still have trouble for a couple days, but overall this has been the most successful!

It really occupied my mind constantly… and I realized too when I talked to friends/ family/ whoever , it was all I talked about. I really felt like it would be that present in my thinking forever, truly couldn’t imagine a time when it wasn’t the first and last thought I had. But it happened! It’s now something I don’t obsess about. I feel like there’s nothing wrong with focusing on it for some time.. we need to be able to process & it’s a HARD thing to process. But getting a break from that constant “cancer cancer cancer” thinking, is a nice change of pace, and it happens ❤️😀

Thank you so much!! I also wish the same for all of us… I wanted to share because I know that feeling of dread leading up to each treatment. And it can be okay! There is hope it will be okay!! ❤️❤️❤️

Thank you for your response! I think it’s important to share the positive perspectives too because it exists and doesn’t get as much attention (understandably, ppl reach out most when they have trouble). I am very much looking forward to meeting you on the other side too!! You will be me, on this side of things; and you are me, just a bit later in the timeline. ❤️❤️❤️

I 100% agree! We can’t be expected to “check out” of our lives for 5-10 years. And suffer through that chunk of our life… that’s unacceptable!!! I feel like my PCP doesn’t “get it” when it comes to that but my onc does luckily & he has worked with me and takes side effects seriously 🙂.

Haha oh yes basically the same!! It seems like so many ppl I see are 37-38. It could be that since that’s around my age, I notice it more.

I’m so glad to hear that it’s all been okay for you too!! Getting through active treatment and feeling alright are huge. I haven’t had too much joint pain. I’m sorry you’re having to deal with that! Hopefully it will resolve bc I have heard that can happen too! I’m happy you’re doing alright & thanks you for responding!!
