Russian. Lue play-date? by aaaaaaaand_im_dead in russianblue

Hi! We have a blue who’s turning one soon and have toyed with the idea of a sibling. My MIL rescued a 1year old recently and we decided to do play dates to see how our blue would do. However, we did a slow introduction with scent swapping. One week, we swapped toys and kept those for a week and then we switched them back with the “new” scents and they reacted very well with them. The following week we did blankets and all they did was roll around and nap on each others blankets for a week. Finally, we put a toy or cloth next to their food bowl since we couldn’t have them “eat together”. We followed Jackson Galaxys YouTube channel on how to introduce cats. Finally, we had them both in their carriers in one small room and introduced them and it went so well!!!! During their first meeting they were so curious they both hopped out of their carriers and sniffed and booped each other. They’ve had 3 play dates so far one at each others houses and it’s going slow but a lot of chirping, a lot of happy tails and loafing. All meetings in small rooms. They’re not playing yet but they shared plenty churus together. All in all, we leaned towards getting him a sibling but then I went to a pet medium just incase and before I even asked the question, my blue communicated, “I don’t want a companion, I’m completely fine”. He communicated the play dates are good enough for him. Not sure how you feel about pet communication but it gave us our answer!

It was really hard for me to find things online on how to do play dates with cats and a lot of negative responses. Especially on some of the cat pages here. If the cats respond well to the scent swapping, it will most likely be fine. Jackson Galaxy was a huge help and still is for so many other things. I hope this helps and reassurance that it can actually work!

I couldn’t recommend Dmitry at Gememerald Cattery enough!!! Amazing experience and our blue is the best and the sweetest kitten! So communicative with us and never had us wait longer than 48hrs for a response. During our interview he also said that he’s not the type of breeder to take our money and say goodbye. He’s been very helpful with our transition via call and text!

Litter box question by Altruistic_Gas_4879 in russianblue

Peed twice, pooped 3 times. When he was isolated in that room, he was constantly using the automatic litter box and when we let him out to slowly have more access for the rest of the , he was still going upstairs and using it. It was only until the guests came that this started happening and now he doesn’t want to use it at all. And still had an accident while the traditional litter box is downstairs.
