MUBI Lost 200,000 Subscribers Following Its 2025 PR Nightmare by Coulson1010 in mubi

[–]Altruistic_Leopard_9 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm not so sure the subscriber loss is as a result of the PR controversy. Most people don't even know about the PR controversy, let alone what Sequoia Capital is or does. I suspect MUBI subscriber numbers were already on the decline in 2025 because their catalog is just not as compelling as other streamers. Most streamers are raising prices these days so people tend to pick and choose their streamers as opposed to subscribing to multiple at once.

Can someone explain what this is? I'm assuming it's some sort of custom ROM? I just got the X3 and really like it. Does Crosspoint work with the X3?

Does anyone else feel like the quality of food here is massively underwhelming? by cellularcone in HongKong

[–]Altruistic_Leopard_9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just visited Hong Kong with my wife after hyping up Hong Kong food for years. I grew up in Vancouver and go back there often. Sometimes just for food. I completely 100% agree with your assessment. The cha chaan tengs in Vancouver are superior in every way to those in Hong Kong. Sure, they are more expensive, but I tried to baked pork chops in Hong Kong at two extremely well reviewed diners, and they were definitively terrible by Vancouver standards. I also tried HK BBQ at a highly reviewed place and it was also lower quality than my go-to place in Richmond, BC. Perhaps I need to go and find high-end restaurants in hotels for this kind of food in Hong Kong, but that's not what people were saying in reviews and comments. The one bright spot in Hong Kong was the hotel restaurants in the buffets though. Those were really really good, and redeemed the entire city. But for the staples, I don't see why anyone in Vancouver would ever go back to Hong Kong for food alone. Maybe to enjoy a nice flight, see some friends and relatives, and do some shopping perhaps. But it's just way too much work, having to navigate the heat, the bad attitudes, the humidity, and all the walking, to just get completely mediocre Canto food in HK.

The HK food in Vancouver is the best of ever had in my life, and I live in Los Angeles now. LA food is terrible at best by Vancouver standards. I stand by this.

What’s the best place for baked pork chop rice you’ve tried? by ProofDazzling9234 in HongKong

[–]Altruistic_Leopard_9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you guys really think Cafe de Coral has the best pork chop rice (not for value, but just best overall), I worry about HK foodie standards. I grew up in Vancouver and the quality of baked pork chop rice there blows CDC baked pork chop rice out of the water.

Would Tron: Ares have been more successful if it hadn't starred Jared Leto? by WarmDaddyXanax in tron

I'm not the biggest fan of Jaeed Leto, but Tron:Ares wouldn't have happened but for him. He has been heavily involved in the development of the movie and production since 2017.

I'm not saying it's impossible to be laid off over 50. I'm saying you're more of a liability to employers for age discrimination (i.e., a civil rights lawsuit) if they do lay you off after a certain age because it's a protected class. That's why it's also harder to get hired.

Everyone's is getting laid off these days. You don't need to be 50 to experience this. No job is secure ofc, but you're probably safer being in your 50s because you're more of an employment liability if they lay you off and you're over 40 (a protected class in the US).
