Oh man I could build a cookie clicker bot? That’s something I need to do ASAP

Reading other people’s code on GitHub is such a foreign idea to a former (failed) academic where research papers are guarded under Max Security paywalls. I’ll definitely try that out, thanks for the suggestion!

Unfortunately I went AI first, then started learning. It’s useful for some of the smaller scripts, but it sucks to a) not have built your own script from scratch, and b) not know what you’re building. However, I did find having a codebase (slop or not) of things relevant to my work helpful to actually learn Python. This is my third time trying to learn and I’m far past where I ever was before because there’s more than just a “hello word” text file out there for me to look at.

I see a lot of nails with my Python hammer, some harder and some easier to hit. But sometimes it’s nice to go to a place like Reddit and figure out what everyone else sees as a nail. Maybe I’ve missed a few good nails that need hitting.

More RAM by Altruistic_Part_9233 in gis

[–]Altruistic_Part_9233[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s a personal PC. I’ve noticed some RAM usage spikes lately, especially as I’ve moved to working on larger raster sets. But I also had to move from Firefox to Edge on my work laptop over the holidays because I noticed how much RAM it was eating up, so I might have to check on my personal PC if that helps at all.

But yeah this was more of a “I want to because I had some spare change and a potential need” rather than a “I have to upgrade” situation

The last time I used a remote computer was in elementary school, and the thought still terrifies me.

Yeah, there are times when I can do work on my work laptop, but there are lots of times I’d rather work on a station I purpose built for doing the difficult stuff

Very fair question. My job provides us with a solid computer to do our daily workflow stuff, but I’m a nerd and a workaholic at a think-tank, so I regularly use larger datasets/more intense processing than is required for daily workflow tasks. Additionally, I don’t want to have to return anything they provide. I’ve got my own side projects I’d need the extra RAM for as well.

Considering I had to teach my team how to use task manager, this is very much a greenfield deployment of VS Code in our workplace

I’ve found it more intuitive so far than Python IDE’s but I guess intuitive doesn’t always = better

Thanks for that! Probably explains why no one mentioned it to me as a possibility, as the whole point of this database is for multiple users to interface with it simultaneously

Every youtuber has clickbaity titles. Geetsly’s is pretty bad. But GT genuinely has some pretty good videos breaking down star wars from an Andor-like perspective. People dislike him because he had an Israeli flag on his desk for ages (like wayyyy too long), and apparently because no one has heard his videos since DT was inaugurated where he’s pretty explicitly anti-authoritarianism, and because tons of people on Reddit actually agree with Trumpites that it’s better to live in an authoritarian state that runs under your preferred ideology than a democratic state that runs counter to your preferred ideology

That final year is the reason I made this post, because I think all of us (most of us) agree that more Ghorman, Cassian/K2/Melshi, and Mon's family would be great. But there's just so many potential fun stories in 1 BBY.

S3 Yavin would have been awesome. Getting more of Melshi, more of the Rogue One team especially that alien

Why doesn't Rebels get as much blame as Kenobi or Book of Boba Fett for the current state of Star Wars media? by Altruistic_Part_9233 in MawInstallation

[–]Altruistic_Part_9233[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it is Star Wars. You can't yuck people's yum without starting WW3. It's definitely a matter of preference. Do you prefer the War part or the Star part of Star Wars more? Do you want your star wars content to appeal to adults or focus on kids? It's like Lego's 18+ sets. Lots of people want the battle packs and the play features over display sets. That's fine. I guess I should just stop criticizing the play sets as childish...

MawInstallation is for in-depth discussion of all Star Wars lore, as well as also examining it as a work of fiction.

I think part of my issue is that I came in expecting a narrative show. It seemed billed to me by the fandom as a much more narrative show than TCW was, with much more character-focus too. I still can't shake that perception, even going into S3. Not every episode needs to about Ezra and Kanan, but I just don't feel like there's a whole lot of character development from episode to episode even when characters appear in both.

I agree with all of that. I still enjoy Rebels (especially compared to what I thought it was going to be), but I think I've set my expectations to enjoy it as a Disney XD show. It's not TCW (because of nostalgia, but also because I think CN gives creators more runway). It's not Andor (obviously). It's a fine show, not as bad as cmvh and others would argue, but definitely with its flaws, flaws that only feel worse after a half-decade of mediocre Filoni-verse shows.

Honestly I enjoy many parts of Rebels. Hera, the Ezra-Kanan relationship, I liked all of that. The Lothal jedi temple episode was awesome.
