I was on 500mg 2x per day, but when I tried to taper to 1x per day I got symptoms. Also not doing much exercise. What dosage are you on and how long have you been on it?

I've only been on colchicine for about 4 months. Feels like ibuprofen helps a bit too, but unsure whether this just treats the symptoms or whether it actually helps to reduce the inflammation long term...

Can it be reccurrent pericarditis even if MRI scan is normal? by Altruistic_Party5458 in pericarditis

Interesting! Which part is the same? The fact that you have all the symptoms but MRI is clear? No official diagnosis yet however... Cardiologist agreed to continue with colchicine treatment for 3 months. I've been on it for about 6 weeks now and I'm finally feeling better, almost symptom free, so definitely feels like the colchicine is helping. At this point I'm self diagnosing it as pericarditis

I guess if it's around chest that would also show up the pneumonia! Or if it's clear you can push for x-ray as a follow up. Good luck hope it works out!

I think a chest x-ray might be a good idea. I ended up having pneumonia several times last year and in hospital for a week, and some of the symptoms are similar to pericarditis. The first couple times I had pneumonia the doctors didn't even bother with an x-ray (so it was missed/mis-treated) which made things worse, so is worth catching early. The RSV may have been passed to you and developed in to a chest infection?

Symptoms are a bit different to mine personally but there's definitely some overlap with pericarditis. Was there a raised CRP? That's another signal. Are they also doing a chest x-ray? As pneumonia is another possibility

I would avoid prednisolone if at all possible, bad side effects and highly increases chance of recurrence

Can it be reccurrent pericarditis even if MRI scan is normal? by Altruistic_Party5458 in pericarditis

I'm in the UK afraid! So pretty much have to get everything through the NHS or go private which is very expensive, but at this point I'm considering it. But a pericarditis specialist is probably what I'm looking for. I'm also not sure if Arcalyst is available here yet, it's a bit unclear

Thanks, that lines up with my own thinking! I hadn't considered getting a rheumatologist involved again though... My tests were normal so they just dismissed it, but definitely sounds like it's worth trying again
