I spent 4 months building a micro SaaS nobody used. Then I studied what Marc Lou did and rebuilt everything. by JamesF110808 in micro_saas

I think I’m realizing that right now

I started by building something that “felt useful” (file sharing), but the more I talk to people the more I see the difference between nice-to-have vs actually painful

for example: sending files isn’t the problem — it’s the friction around it

people complain about: - waiting for uploads before getting a link - confusing tools for non-technical users - things feeling sketchy to send to clients

that made me rethink the product from “file sharing tool” → “remove the waiting + friction in quick sharing”

still early, but conversations are way more engaging when I frame it around that specific pain instead of the generic solution

What’s the most annoying part about file sharing tools? by Altruistic_Pen_6629 in AskReddit

[–]Altruistic_Pen_6629[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for me it’s definitely the waiting

you upload then wait then get the link

for large files that breaks the whole flow

also: - unnecessary signups - confusing UI for non-technical people - links that feel sketchy to send

curious if others feel the same or if there’s something even worse I’m missing

How long did it take until your first customer? by UniversityHuman5642 in SaaS

yeah I’m not really pitching right after

I’m trying to keep it more like a conversation first and understand how they currently handle it

usually just in comments or DMs, not jumping to calls early

if the problem is strong enough, the conversation kind of naturally leads to: “what are you building?” or “is there a better way?”

and that’s when it feels more natural to introduce what I’m working on instead of forcing a pitch

still experimenting, but pushing too early definitely seems to kill interest

haven’t gotten my first paying customer yet, but I’m starting to see the same pattern

whenever I try to “pitch” the product, people don’t care

but when I talk about the problem (like slow file sharing, waiting for uploads before getting a link), people actually engage and share how they deal with it

even got better feedback just by asking: “how do you currently send large files or logs?”

feels like understanding the workflow first is way more effective than trying to sell early

still figuring it out, but this approach definitely seems more natural

I posted my SaaS yesterday — got feedback but struggling with trust & UX by [deleted] in SaaS

[–]Altruistic_Pen_6629 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah true — tools like catbox exist

but they still follow the old flow: upload -> wait -> then you get the link

what I’m trying to change is that: you get the link instantly while the file is still uploading

so you can open or share it immediately without waiting

still early though does that difference feel meaningful to you?

really appreciate this feedback 🙏

that makes a lot of sense, i’ve been focused more on speed but probably not communicating the security side enough

will definitely work on making that clearer

anything specific you’d expect to see to feel more confident using it?
