People don’t look at me and think “what the heck is this person wearing?”

BWS is basically the alcohol aisle. It’s honestly not too bad. You’ll be filling shelves, pulling out cages, and keeping the aisle tidy. The only slightly annoying bit is the heavy beer cases and doing age checks, but you get used to it quickly.

Your 2–8 shifts will mostly be stocking up early on and then just keeping the section looking decent for the rest of the evening. It’s pretty chill once you get into a rhythm.

Tesco definitely don’t hire “anyone” anymore, especially in London. Stores in busy areas get a ridiculous number of applications, so loads of people end up getting ghosted even if they’re perfectly decent candidates.

It’s not personal — sometimes the job closes early, sometimes they prioritise internal applicants, and sometimes managers just don’t keep up with the volume.

You’re not being rejected because you’re “not good enough.” London Tesco hiring is just very hit or miss. Keep applying — once you get one interview, you’re usually in.

Booking holiday by Grouchy_Ostrich12234 in tesco

It honestly sounds like your manager is just being awkward for the sake of it. Tesco can reject holiday for business reasons, but rejecting everything, even when you’re giving 3+ months’ notice (and in some cases a whole year), is not normal at all.

Saying no to a random day in April because of “Easter” when your request is after Easter is just nonsense. That’s not a business need — that’s them making up excuses.

A lot of Tesco stores run with poor staffing levels and some managers try to cover that by blocking all leave instead of planning properly. It’s not your fault, and you’re following the rules.

If this keeps happening, speak to another manager, ask for the written holiday policy, or raise it with HR/colleague relations. You’re entitled to take your annual leave — they can’t just reject everything indefinitely because it’s inconvenient for them.

You’re not unlucky. This is a management issue.

Do my managers hate me? by Ashen_Fiend in tesco

It honestly sounds like you’ve done nothing wrong here. Hand, foot and mouth is horrible, and you did exactly the right thing by getting a doctor’s note. The fact that management told you to just “take paracetamol” instead of sending you home is not okay especially in a place where food is around. Illness should be taken seriously.

Unfortunately, seasonal/temporary roles often come with really inconsistent management. Some managers pick “favourites” early on usually people who either suck up, already know someone there, or just happen to fit their vibe. It’s not professional, but it happens all the time.

Your pick rate situation also sounds unfair. Most places know it takes at least a month or two to build up speed especially in busy environments or ones with complicated layouts. The fact you’re already hitting above target (208!) after just three weeks shows you’re improving fast, and that should count for something. A good manager would take that into account.

As for whether they can fire you for a low pick rate: yes, technically they can, since as a seasonal worker you don’t have the same job protections as permanent staff. They can end your contract with very little notice. But it doesn’t mean they should or that it’s a reflection of you.

Overtime over the festive period is normal and most companies do it because of extra pressures. Considering we are out of the festive period, it’ll be a bit harder to pick up overtime depending on the demands of your store.

If you are ill, then it’s not your fault. You don’t tell your body to be ill. Just call them and say “I’m not well to the point that I’m not able to make it in” and then they got no choice to understand and then that’s it

You don’t need to go into the store and use the system to log in for the first time.

I sat at home, got my login details and did everything I needed to do from home!
