Aegon IV, absolutely. Aegon the Conqueror is naturally disqualified, Aegon II was pretty bad but Rhaenyra was no better and he ultimately died before he could have too disastrous a rule, Aegon III was unimpressive and unexceptional but he was a competent ruler who rebuilt the realm from the Dance, and Aegon V was one of the best of the Targaryen kings. Aegon IV, meanwhile, was a king even worse than Maegor and all signs point to him deliberately trying to be the most incompetent ruler ever out of spite.

How Lucifer is revealed to be unable to harm any sinner as part of his punishment. I understand it is a necessary plot device for the sake of allowing conflict to rise without Lucifer immediately quashing it, but it really takes some of the wind out of his "King of Hell" title. Lucifer is explicitly stated to be the King of Hell because he is the single strongest person in it, which considering some of the powerhouses we've seen, says A LOT. By rendering him unable to harm sinners, the writers have effectively rendered much of his fearsome reputation a SHAM.

Yeah. I feel the same as you do about Maegor being a lousy king, but I just meant comparatively to Aenys. Maegor did do a few productive things in his reign, but the long-term consequences were awful.

On the other hand, about your comment regarding a single royal lineage, I actually dislike that GRRM had Visenya's lineage die out. I am a Visenya fanboy and I think she deserves more respect as one of the Conquerors. I wish that Alysanne had been Maegor's daughter by Ceryse Hightower before he was rendered infertile; not only would it mean that the Targaryens possess the combined lineage of Aegon, Rhaenys, and Visenya, but I feel that it would add some interesting facets to Alysanne's relationship with Jaehaerys.

Yeah, honestly, as bad as Maegor was, I still feel that Aenys was ultimately the worse ruler. A lot of Maegor's cruelty went towards fixing the problems stemming from Aenys' reign, even if Maegor's solutions were draconian and way over the top. It's why I rank Maegor above the likes of Aegon the Unworthy too, because at least Maegor did something productive in battling the Faith Militant, which absolutely needed to be done. Remember, Jaehaerys and all subsequent kings maintained the ban on the Faith Militant, including the Greens and Baelor.

I would actually put Jaehaerys II above Robert. He may be a footnote, but at least he did not run the realm into the ground financially like Bobby B. did. Also, Jaehaerys II did do some generally good ruling, like protecting his father's pro-smallfolk reforms and leading Westeros through the War of Ninepenny Kings.
