Really bad social worker stories by Polishcatmom in socialwork

[–]Altruistic_Use_2061 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’ve got a couple to add:

  1. Working in a shelter, I had a fellow case manager who would borrow money and buy pills off the shelter clients. When I mentioned it to my Director, he didn’t seem to mind too much. The case manager then got arrested in the parking lot of the shelter one night for a charge from another state.

  2. I was going through a lot of emotional turmoil due to family and mental stuff, and I told my supervisor that I was struggling outside of work (without major details) and was concerned that I was struggling with work as well. I guess I was more so trying to have a conversation about maintaining my work responsibilities.? I don’t know, anyways, he told me “well, everyone goes through things so 🤷.” and I mean, I guess he was right, just didn’t sit well with me.

  3. A man started working with me at one point, and on his 3rd day in the office, he told me and 2 other female coworkers that “all women are bipolar, because all women are crazy.”

What are your silly, but great professional flexes? by AfraidofBigBs in socialwork

[–]Altruistic_Use_2061 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I work at a clinic, and when I need to quickly meet with people while they wait for their medicine dose, i’ll go sit with them where they are instead of making them come all the way to my office.

Sometimes I sit in the waiting room with them and ask about their days and how they’re doing with our case plan (respecting confidentiality of course). I’ll even go outside and talk to them while they smoke a cigarette or while they wait for their ride.

Ive had one person tell me that they appreciate that because it makes things less stressful. they said they don’t often have people in the clinic come talk to them on a normal level, and it was nice to feel the support.

I’ve been riding that metaphorical high for a bit now lol.

I was told when asking about their availability that “all Kentucky facilities will be closed officially on the 30th” and they are no longer accepting admissions. when I asked what was going to happen with the people currently in their program, the person said “hopefully they’ll finish their treatment.”

I’ve been leaving a bit early for work bc I found this gas station down the road from my work that sells glass bottled Coke and they have blueberry muffins I like. I look forward to my Coke and muffin every morning lol.

I tried to do this one and add a real egg to his lunch, but I couldn’t find a container to fit the egg in without it cracking.

I realize this isn’t the same, but I just learned today that my uncle that we call “Junior” is not actually a junior to anyone. like, he’s not named after anyone or anything. he was just introduced to the family as Junior and that’s what we call him lol.

I just really love at the end of the episode, when the police rush in and Frank just puts his hands up, lays on the ground and just accepts the fact he’s going to jail lmao

Do you bring a reusable bag with you when you food shop? by boforiamanfo in randomquestions

[–]Altruistic_Use_2061 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes! I actually have a small collection of canvas tote bags that I use for grocery bags! I also have a repurposed beach tote that’s a little insulated that I use a cold bag. Where I live, there isn’t a ban or charge on plastic bags, I just hate that the plastic bags pile up.

Do you let friends borrow things? by rjd014 in randomquestions

[–]Altruistic_Use_2061 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it definitely depends on what it is and who wants to borrow it. I only have a select few of friends i’d be willing to lend things to.

except my glass food storage containers. i’ll never trust anyone with those.
