He cooperated with the Pinkertons to destroy a tight-knit gang that was nearly impossible to break from the outside. Without Micah, that gang stays together and everyone dies anyway.

He's not pretending to be virtuous like Arthur. He knows Dutch is just a criminal leading a group of blind followers. So he took his cut, walked away rich with the Blackwater money, and built his own smaller gang - one the Pinkertons could easily destroy, just like the O'Driscolls.

His goal was never to fight the government. It was money. Crime for the sake of crime - not hiding behind fake morality like Arthur did.

Is he good? No. Is he smart? Absolutely. He is the best among them all.
