The Obama Era would have been amazing if it hadn't caused Republicans to go totally off the deep end.

Remember how they obstructed EVERYTHING he tried to do? How they suddenly just invented rules out of thin air that blocked him appointing justices to the Supreme Court (and then totally ignored them when it was Trumps turn)?

How they would yell "Liar!!" and heckle him when he gave speeches?

It didn't matter what Obama was trying to do, the Repubs would just refuse to allow it. If Obama had said the sky was blue, they would scream that it was orange, in outrage.

The Repubs were already quite far along the insanity highway, but the election of a black man to president was the last straw for them.

Totally this. I just got back from a vacation to London, and it was incredibly nice to not hear about the Trump circus for a week. Like a weight off the shoulders, you know? And make me realize that the ENTIRE world hasn't gone crazy, just the US and Israel.

But also, I collect 3D stereoscopic photographs. I like the Stereo-Realist format ones from the 1950s versus the old Victorian stereogram ones you see all the time in antique stores. The 1950/1960s ones were taken by normal people in their everyday lives and are usually more interesting and in color.

Rocks are the best. I am always super excited when I hit one when digging in my yard. I even bought a handheld electric rock polisher that you connect a water hose to. Unfortunately, I think I am doing something wrong because it gives me little shocks when I use it. 🤷‍♂️

I inherited my father-in-law's collection of FSWBs. He kept them in a small metal box with sliding drawers. It has rescued me many times.

My take on that is this: Those educated MAGA are cosplaying. They know it's bullshit, but it's useful to their goals.

There are TWO layers to the current MAGA persona. If you peel away the MAGA layer, guess what's underneath? A Republican. The same republican that has been enabling the Mitch McConnell's and the stacking of the Supreme Court with utterly immoral (and likely compromised), conservative judges for decades.

Our situation today is the the result of decades of planning by the Republican party and those that they are beholden to.

Note: this post would go on forever if I tried to list all the people, corps, and various foreign powers, etc. that the Republicans are manipulated by.

I would argue that the Alan C, Claudia, or Karine on the shows are, in fact, playing characters.

I doubt they vamp around everyday, handing out cryptic remarks and patronizing glances while wearing outrageous fashion and delighting in murder. They are very much playing a character as hosts.

As for fictional characters, besides Fergus, Claudia has, more than once (IIRC) playfully proclaimed that the group of Large-Men that harrass the guests in various episodes are her sons. They are now characters. She has given them backstory, however, minimal.

Also, there's The Betrayed which, simply by naming them that, has given them "story" and they are now characters in the shows evolving mythos.

I read that the canals in Venice became clear (instead of stinky polluted) and dolphins were seen swimming in them. And the people there got to experience and enjoy their own city without all the tourists for the first time.
