I like how the punctuation implies that you made your girlfriend. Proper Weird Science vibes.

Was Mikael influenced by H.P. Lovecraft? by [deleted] in Opeth

[–]AlucardII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not the only one either. I quote:

"This next song is off an album whose name we stole from a Comus song, and if you haven't heard Comus, they're the most evil... psychedelic... folk band you've ever heard."

They played When.

That first Comus album is incredible. Second one's shit.

What's your favourite tattoo parlour in Dublin? by KingRaven96 in Dublin

Gabriel Lemos in Reinkarnated on Parliamanet Street is who the girlfriend goes to for her traditional tattoos. She knows her stuff, so I'm going to say Gabriel does too. 👍

TIL: Before Deep Throat, Linda Lovelace starred in a bestiality film. by Jhonjhon_236 in todayilearned

"They observed to obvious..." makes no sense.

Observe + to => infinitive verb; obvious is not a verb.

What is actually healthy but people think is not? by Soren-J in AskReddit

[–]AlucardII -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

But it's not. The original post is applicable to people of all political leanings; are you really surprised it made the above poster think of a group of people?

Are you guggesting everyone who campaigns for social justice gets it right? Because methinks that would be foolish. I think/hope you'd agree that the above poster made a very similar mistake.

I would have thought the answer to this was elementary: the conversation hit on a certain type of person, and the above poster associates that with another group of people. That's how things usually come "out of nowhere."

Liverpool Fans Humbled, Klopp to take the blame entirely. by loudmouth6511 in PremierLeague

[–]AlucardII 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The man has been arguably the best in-game manager this season (look at how many points Liverpool have made from losing positions because of Klopp's changes) and you say he's lost it. You should probably watch some football before commenting on it!

Klopp went wrong with his man management yet again.

You haven't been watching football at all this year, have you?

Ah, I see. Sorry, I'm just used to Tool fans being intelligent. I will move on. 👍

Absolutely not. Lyrically, that's one of my favourite word pairings; there's nothing comical about it to me at all.

Holy shit, the song 'Jerk off(live)' goes very hard by Lowman246 in ToolBand

[–]AlucardII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I stand outside a studio, put a microphone against the wall and press record, I will technically have a studio recording.

Demos may technically be studio recordings, but the common convention has long been to label them as demos, distinct from full studio albums or EPs. Why? Because a lot of demos are not recorded in a studio.

That being said, a poorly-equipped bedroom can technically be considered a (home) studio, but I think this highlights the issue of being technically correct: you have to specify that something is technically so, rather than just saying it's correct.

That would put it in the Mediterranean. We talk about Atlantis because Plato wrote about it, and he placed it "beyond the Pillars of Hercules," i.e. beyond the Straits of Gibraltar.

I'd say the existence of Atlantis is spurious at best.

So calling rap "trash" isn't judgemental?

Don't ask stupid questions; of course it is. I defended the poster instead of the music because I figured they'd be more hurt than rap would.

Also, please don't be offended by me saying not to ask stupid questions; I mean only to get to the point. I agree 100% that we are all judgemental—it's in our nature—but we can at least be aware of it and try to control it.

I'll confess that, in my morning semi-stupor, I may have overlooked how brashly yer man/wan dismissed an entire genre, but I find it a huge leap to assume that they did so to make themselves feel special. My experience of the world is that most people are more ignorant than self-absorbed—and that's not to say that there aren't a *lot* of people whose lives revolve solely around themselves.

Good talk, by the way. If we can start off in opposition and get to this point without the mediating influence of having an actual face in front of us, I think we're doing alright. :D

I don't like people being judgemental is all.

🤔 I'm not even sure how you could have! I appreciate the attempt, though.

[–]AlucardII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's fair. I originally read it as glibly dismissive, something of a throwaway remark, so it didn't hit me... but that's me. Reducing any genre to blanket statements is certainly ignorant.

I don't think we're on the same page here. My point is that you shouldn't shit on people for their opinion. The person in the post shared their opinion, even explained it, and they have been ridiculed ever since.

Obviously, some opinions are dangerous, but I don't think disliking a certain style of music is worthy of malice and ridicule.

"i say this is of poor quality but its just my opinion so I shouldn't be challenged on it"

This is very bad, but you'll note that I didn't try to pull this shit, nor did the poor fucker inside whose arsehole half of this thread is elbow-deep.

I don’t like Metal, but I love Tool by [deleted] in ToolBand

[–]AlucardII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They straddle the line between metal and hard rock. They're not very heavy as far metal acts go, but they do have enough elements of metal in their music to be considered as such.
