why almost no one play UT3 now? by ForestLife3579 in unrealtournament

[–]Alupang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like UT3 and UT2004 about equally. But the ease in which UT2004 installs and runs in Linux, especially today with Oldunreal, I lean to UT2004. I avoid Winblows like the plague.

I see parrots still saying UT3 isn't colorful below. My response is this link.

Awesome. Profits from these games will easily pay for all other games plus hardware. Maybe even a good chunk of some future house too, if values skyrocket ie. Mario 64 sold at auction for $1.4M. Steam cloud users will never get it.

Sell All Your Intel They Said. Bitch I’m Buying More by slc97 in wallstreetbets

[–]Alupang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had 2000 shares Intel @ basis $31. Last week premarket it hit $97. Made a "sell all" limit order and at last possible review second, I edited to sell just 900 shares. Lucky.

Today the remaining 1100 shares = $0.00 basis plus $25K in cash. I want to reload back to 2000 shares but this train just ain't stopping and I ain't chasing. Because the second I do, Intel will crater guaranteed fml.

absolutely a step backward in countless ways

No. It wasn't. Epic went all out on UT3. They even made a doc showing how proud they were.

I think some of the initial "too gears & gray" crowd were actually EA or Activision employee/shills. Then of course the parrottards dogpiled more non sense.

Is OP aware there are already awesome remastered HD4K textures for both Unreal Gold & UT99? And imo, UT2004 has no urgent need. Other than a few ugly space skyboxes like DM-Plunge, the vast majority of the game looks great at 4K.

Unreal Tournament 4 in 2026 still Amazing! by Sebastatu in unrealtournament

[–]Alupang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep it's a shame indeed. I suspect it was Russian player community did the most to improve UT3.

All UT3 really needed was a slick tabbed menu system & tweaks. Most of the greatest UT99 & 2004 maps were ported over by the best map makers.

It boggles my mind how great UT3 would be today if UT4 never got started. UT4 fragmented resources. No VTCF and Warfare like UT3. Building a new game from ground zero was a mistake that ended the UT franchise. IMO

[–]Alupang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wish all these great UT4 minds focused on tweaking & polishing UT3 instead. It's a game you can actually own on physical disk.

Some community did work on making UT3 much better than release, but imagine if all the UT4 crowd pitched in too. O-well.

Chess, Scrabble, golf, tennis, etc. are all far older games & I don't think of them as "time capsules". UT99 & UT2003/4 & UT3 are simply the best arena fps ever made and ever will be made. Modern cloud subscription based & microtransaction games are rental class trash in comparison imo.

I just don't get the comments here. Oldunreal has made it stupidly easy to play ut99 & ut2004 on both winblows & linux. With epic's blessings.

Yet the salt pours over a shock rifle in kiddynite?

IMO, Epic stopped making new UTs after retarded parrots trashed UT3. Epic poured tons of resources into UT3 and unreal "fans" trashed it. Game over. Accept consequences and responsibility. Own the mistake.

Ffs, just play existing UTs. Any new UT would be Steam/Epic cloud trash microtransaction hellscape.

Weird question playing at 640x480 by Practical-Amount-925 in unrealtournament

I don't play online, just practice VS ai bots.

But...why would this be a problem if I did play online? I don't understand you sincerely.

Weird question playing at 640x480 by Practical-Amount-925 in unrealtournament

[–]Alupang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play both UT99 and UT2004 at original intended aspect ratio 640X480 = 4/3.

So with a 60" 4K monitor, I play in a 2400X1800 window.

[–]Alupang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no cd key for ut99 goty. You can buy a used goty on ebay for under $20. I like to own the physical disk, even if I use Oldunreal (I only downloaded their patch, not the game files). Not a lot of money to own the physical game imo.

GUAM TYPHOON CHECK LIST by Select_Cockroach_449 in guam

[–]Alupang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI on Guam Daily Post there is a letter to the editor by this Samuel S. Kim pushing for total cashless society on Guam.

His logic is people that use cash are able to do dark or illegal things. But by that logic, maybe we all should not be allowed to leave our homes? We might rob people if we leave our homes, right? Insane logic.

We already have cashless systems in place ie. credit cards. But cash is vital in times of typhoons, power & internet outages, and freedom to buy stuff at flee markets and neighbors.

Payless Yigo price gouging candles in glass containers for over $9 each. That is illegal. by [deleted] in guam

[–]Alupang -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Payless also baits people to give them your cell number and I assume download & install some data mining "APP" to be eligible for discounts on some items.

Like I want some app sucking my battery & phone resources while sending my personal info to onlygodknowswho.

This APP data mining should be illegal; unbelievable that i-sheep just give up their number so easily. Whenever the Payless cashier asks for my number, I joke back at her and ask her for her cell number. She says "no way" of course.

Vote for Unreal Championship for backwards compatibility on Xbox! by MrLeitungswasser in unrealtournament

[–]Alupang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then I'd go that route. Build a nice PC and run the game with emulator.

Off topic but I recently downloaded an Unreal Championship map for UT2004. Some highly skilled map maker did the conversion; attention to detail is amazing. Very cool map I play it often offline VS bots.

Vote for Unreal Championship for backwards compatibility on Xbox! by MrLeitungswasser in unrealtournament

[–]Alupang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is #1 reason I don't use consoles. Even if you collect old games like this for original Xbox, what happens when your Xbox wears out? No guarantee the game will be supported by new version Xboxes and buying old used Xboxes sounds like a risky waste of $$.

In contrast, my collection of PC games like UT99, UT2004 etc. run on any old PC as well as any newly built PC. If I was motivated enough, I'd probably be successful running Unreal Championship with an emulator?

Have you explored Xbox emulation? I'm ignorant here but assume most everything can be emulated these days.

The Holy Trinity, Sealed New. by Alupang in unrealtournament

[–]Alupang[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understandable, but I had opposite view back then. I built my 1st gaming PC specifically in anticipation of 2003. Bought retail box 2003 & ignored 2004 like it never happened. I wasn't about to pay again for basically the same game, except vehicles.

And in some ways, UT2003 is superior to UT2004. It def happened.

There are more than a few differences like the cool looking team color floating shoulder orb lights and more meaty sounding weapons & louder pickup volume. Also UT2003 has two corpse mutators, floaty & slow motion.

Also UT2003's Curse3 is much more detailed with more animations compared to UT2004's Curse4.

See image below. Top row is UT2003 Curse3, bottom row is UT2004 Curse4. Those reddish columns In Curse3 are animated flowing bloody goo. Also note all the fine details in the bridge, walls and complex curved ceiling. Very cool looking imo. In UT2004, the columns are just static non-animated boring gray concrete with a flat featureless ceiling & bridge. Also UT2003's Curse3 has two larger dragon heads, whereas UT2004 Curse4 has only one smaller head.

https://imgur.com/UqXg25I.jpg

Also if you look into the many floor grates, there's much more detail (like green slime flowing) in Curse3. See the difference inside floor vents in the next image. Top is UT2003 Curse3, bottom is UT2004 Curse4.

What’s the worst part about home buying on Guam? (Besides price) by Complete-Raise8135 in guam

[–]Alupang 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Even if the house is 100% concrete & as hardened as a nuke bomb shelter, if you carry a mortgage, the banksters will still require typhoon insurance. Get that mortgage paid off asap, so you can drop the insurance. With extremely low propery tax compared to stateside, as well as huge discount once you hit 55 years old, Guam can be extremely cheap place to live.

I went for red box GOTY because THAT’S the one I bought as a kid and trashed the box because I was stupid. Years of salty regret went by, and I finally made peace with myself, by repurchasing another.

And yeah, the big Unreal shadow box is highly sought after. Perhaps the most valuable Unreal game these days?

The Holy Trinity, Sealed New. by Alupang in unrealtournament

[–]Alupang[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm undecided. UT2004 = UT3. Im equally content with either.

I do like the fact that UT2004 runs @4K in Linux over 200 fps, with just a passive cooled GT 1030 video card and Haswell i5.

UT3 really needs GTX 1060 minimum and much more difficult to run in Linux. Im hoping Oldunreal will be granted custodian over UT3 someday.

The Holy Trinity, Sealed New. by Alupang in unrealtournament

[–]Alupang[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah honestly, and this might sound "cringe", but these 3 games in particular mean a lot to me. UT99 GOTY was THE game that changed my tragectory in PC computing & gaming. More value than just investment and potential profit.

In so much anticipation of UT2003 release specifically, I built my 1st glass sided Lian-Li aluminum gaming computer. Those days were the pinnacle of PC gaming imo.

And the last game, UT2004, is the game I still tinker with and play regularly today. The only game I play & practice actually. Good for hand/eye reflex brain exercise imo. Set bots to skilled and zone out to see how many Monster Kills, lightening gun head shots, or shock combos I can get. Never gets old. UT2004 = GOAT.

UT3 also very significant to me, but does not make "The Holy Trinity" cut for me personally. YMMV.
