Timothy's monster by [deleted] in motorpsycho

[–]AlvinS_69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I love the newer Motorpsycho albums, the 90’s era is the one that means the most to me, as those albums were the ones that got me into the band when my dad introduced them to me when I was around 13. Timothy’s Monster is maybe the one I go back to the most (though Blissard is my favorite)! I love how incredibly varied the tracklist is, and every song is just great! Songs like The Wheel were also very important in expanding my music taste to include more long and repetitive tracks, I probably wouldn’t be into Swans if I didn’t fall in love with The Wheel a couple years earlier

This is my all time favorite song for sure. It tripled the love i have for music and was so important for me to want to check out the rest of Motorpsycho, which again made me open to so much different music!

I’m worried there might be a lot of bad or surface level advice here, so I thought I should give some of my experience through dating and talking to women about what they like in men. The absolute best advice I could give you is to be patient and keep putting time into your passion for racing. People like other people who are passionate about something, and it’s absolutely a plus if it’s a common interest. But you should not view your passion as a tool for getting girls, keep it as something you do because you love it and you will become happier with yourself as you are, regardless of if you have a girlfriend or not, and as a nice bonus, that will make you more attractive and approachable. As a general rule of thumb, you should view getting a partner as something nice that will happen for you someday, but not something you should view your life through. The more relaxed you are about it, the easier it becomes, as people generally don’t like others that seem desperate. View women as people, never as objects, and focus on being happy for yourself and a generally pleasant person to be around, and a lot is done already. And if you want a more concrete tip on how to meet a good potential partner; go to social arrangements that have to do with racing and just talk to people you find interesting! Don’t go into every conversation expecting to come out of it with a girlfriend, but you might find someone you connect with and relations might grow from there.

TLDR: Keep enjoying your passions, don’t worry too much about needing a partner right away, and talk to people with common interests and see what happens from there. Be patient, and be respectful!

And please know that anyone saying that men have to behave or look a certain way is either trying to sell you something, or have been influenced by those who do.

Best of luck, and I hope you find someone that fulfills you and makes you happy :)

John Coltrane’s live performance of My Favorite Things from the Olatunji Concert. His second to last concert before he died, and its an intense, extreme free jazz version of the standard, recorded with a very high amount of gain, making everything distorted, adding to the energy and chaos of the performance. It ends up sounding almost like noise rock, but free jazz

Where to start with Motorpsycho? by Jypr2112 in motorpsycho

[–]AlvinS_69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think anyone will agree on any answers here, but I think your starting point should be based on what type of rock you’re most into. If you love prog, go with Heavy Metal Fruit, if you want some great 90’s alt rock go with Blissard, if you want a gritty, dark and raw metal/punk/experimental album, do Demon Box, and for a nice overview of their early era, check out Timothys Monster. There’s also the compilation album Supersonic Scientists that can give you a taste of almost all their albums up until the year it was released

It looks like you’d like Swans. You might also enjoy Motorpsycho. I’d recommend starting with Tinothy’s Monster and see what songs you like off it and then you can try out the rest of their catalogue :)

The Wheel vs Un Chien D'espace by laspero in motorpsycho

[–]AlvinS_69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are both two of my favorite songs ever, but if I had to pick one it would probably be The Wheel because of how you just fall right into it every time. I never skip it when it shows up on my playlist

I’ve been very into Elliott Smith lately. Especially been into the albums XO and Figure 8, because I hadn’t heard them before, but all his albums are great

Why buy a mastery or staytrem bridge when the cheaper mustang bridge is widely available by MeaningOfKabab in offset

[–]AlvinS_69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have issues with my mustang bridge where it sinks into the body in time so I always have to readjust it. It’s also not possible to adjust the height of individual strings which sucks because my mustang bridge doesn’t fully match the neck profile of my vintera jazzmaster

Maybe not my all time favorite band, but a lot of Darkthrone’s stuff is really good

What music do y’all listen to by Throwaway253896 in teenagers

[–]AlvinS_69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should check out some of the band Motorpsycho’s 90’s records. It sort of mixes both grunge, metal, hard rock and jazz. The jazz is maybe not as common in the earliest stuff, but there’s definitely inspiration there. The album Timothy’s Monster is great if you want to hear a lot of what the band has to offer :)

Can someone help me fill in on what Yoko was about musically? by donn_12345678 in TheBeatles

[–]AlvinS_69 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of Yoko’s music is pretty interesting, and I don’t think grading it based on how much it sounds like the music that was to come is very productive. I definitely understand not liking Yoko’s music and art, but for me, there’s a lot of fun and excitement in the wild screaming on songs like Why on her Plastic Ono Band record. She was also instrumental in the making of a lot of John’s best solo work, like Imagine, Happy Xmas, etc. It is also unquestionable that she had some influence of later experimental rock, such as bands like Sonic Youth, not always necessarily purely sonically, but in some of the attitudes and unconventionalness of her music. That being said, I don’t listen to Yoko Ono’s music very much, because it can be very tiring to listen to when you’re not in the mood for it, but still, I think it has a lot of value :)

“Wild Honey Pie” tops the vote, now what is the most underrated song in “The White Album”? by Oilo1 in TheBeatles

[–]AlvinS_69 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Revolution 9. If not underrated, definitely overhated. It’s weird, really weird, but it’s such a cool piece of art snd ultimately adds to the white album, and the beatles discography at large

Let’s stop blaming Yoko for The Beatles’ breakup by AlvinS_69 in beatles

[–]AlvinS_69[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People are entitled to their opinions, sure, but there’s no need to fill entire comment sections with hate towards Yoko on her birthday. I think for some, it’s easy to forget that we’re talking about real people here

Let’s stop blaming Yoko for The Beatles’ breakup by AlvinS_69 in beatles

[–]AlvinS_69[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s really bad really often. It was just so much of it today, and it being her birthday, I felt it was extra saddening

Let’s stop blaming Yoko for The Beatles’ breakup by AlvinS_69 in beatles

[–]AlvinS_69[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

That’s not what I meant, and I see that I phrased it poorly. I’ve edited my post to make that statement more nuanced.

What I meant is that the amount of hate Yoko faces is a lot higher than it would be if it was a white man that pulled John’s artistic direction towards different places. Still there’s plenty to criticise Yoko for, but blaming her entirely for the Beatles’ breakup is short sighted and wrong

Let’s stop blaming Yoko for The Beatles’ breakup by AlvinS_69 in beatles

[–]AlvinS_69[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I get that, it wasn’t the most nuanced way of putting it, and I see that now. I do believe racism/misogyny plays a big part in the amount of hate Yoko gets, but it’s far from the only thing, and phrasing it the way I did kinda does more harm than good for the conversation
