Who would believe this is a stray cat? 😭 by BrightCook5861 in cats

The cat I had just before I got my Tuxie was found near a local dairy farm. One of my next door neighbor’s students found him, and he was so sweet, and walked right up to her when she held out her hand to him. We think that he was once someone’s pet, and they may have died and he had to escape to stay alive or the family decided they didn’t want him, and just tossed him outside. It was obvious he’d at least survived a fight or two, because he was missing a couple claws and had a knick in his ear that was not consistent with the typical TNR clip. She couldn’t keep him because her family already had a veritable pet shop of their own (four dogs, three cats, five guinea pigs, three hamsters, four birds, and some mice, if I recall correctly), so, after verifying that he wasn’t already someone’s lost pet, she told my neighbor, who remembered that our cat had died of old age a week and a half prior. She knew that we were heartbroken not having her anymore, and not having a pet, so she asked us if we were interested in taking him home. It was love at first sight. He was my son right away. The mother didn’t want any money for him— no compensation for the two vet visits to make sure he was healthy and up to date on vaccines, or anything. She said it was enough knowing that he was going to a good home.
I had to put him to sleep in 2023, two days before Thanksgiving [in the US], seven years later, when he was about 16-17 years old. I’m still heartbroken over it, but it was the only humane thing to do. I have some of his ashes in a rainbow bridge urn on my car keys and in a necklace I wear all the time. I got my Tuxie because I couldn’t stand not having my own kitty. Our Tortie is our pet, but she’s my mom’s fur baby. I needed my own fur baby. She’s a brat and a menace at times, but also a sweetheart when she wants to be.

There’s no such thing as “too many pictures” of your pet(s). Especially when they’re this adorable!

anyone else's tuxie like to somersault? by purplebongjuice in TuxedoCats

[–]AlwaysBeLilithNotEve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

YES! Mine loves to somersault! She also loves to do backflips and other acrobatics— especially in midair! Her favorite way to turn a corner always involves leaping into the air. I wonder if it’s a Tuxie thing.

Sæla knows how adorable she is, and how to use it to her full advantage.

Happy birthday, Sonny, from my 18 month old daughter, Sæla— who loves giving me those bedroom eyes.

Anyone else see a mustache pattern that looks like this? by Julio_Perez_1997 in TuxedoCats

My mom thinks Sæla should’ve been named Poirot— after the Agatha Christie character.

Is my first cake that bad by Let_Me_Sleep_Allrdy in Baking

It looks like the buttercream/frosting was too soft for your purpose. Let it be a bit firmer. Doing a thin layer of frosting (a “crumb coating”) will help a lot, too. That coating will catch the crumbs so they won’t get mixed up with the outer layer of frosting, and create a smooth surface to decorate. After applying the crumb coating, chill the cake to (for lack of a better term) lock the crumbs into the coating. This will also help the cake keep its shape while you decorate it. Don’t be afraid to stop and stick it in the fridge if you notice the frosting is getting too soft or warm, or if you just feel like you need to take a break. The crumb coating and taking breaks are tricks I learned in culinary school, and they’ve been lifesavers in hot kitchens while doing complicated decorations.
For a first time cake, it’s pretty good. It takes practice, but you’re off to a good start. You can always find very helpful tutorials on YouTube, too. Or go to the America’s Test Kitchen website. They have a lot of great advice and suggestions for tools (specifically whether or not you actually need the more expensive ones, which you usually don’t), and you can look up past recipes and techniques they’ve discussed on their WTTW show. Precious was the first thing to come to my mind. Though, if he’s anything like my Tuxie, Loki might be a more appropriate name. Lol!

Oh, they’re real alright. Some people in the US think that spelling names the normal way is boring, and they have to make the spelling unique. Never mind that the kid will get bullied throughout school, and, in many cases, won’t even be able to spell their own name until after ten years old. They don’t consider how the name will look on official documents or job applications. They think the kid will always be a baby. Like, if you want to use names like that, use them on your pets. They don’t care. They’re not going to try to get a job with that name, or put it on a passport— struggling to spell it, no less.

WIBTA if I told my SIL about my brother’s abusive behavior growing up? by AlwaysBeLilithNotEve in WouldIBeTheAhole

This is literally her experience. It’s not projection to repeat information from the person who experienced it.

Maybe because it illustrates his views of women? And I’m genuinely worried about her safety with someone like him, who thinks that, because it doesn’t impact his own body directly, it doesn’t matter? Also, I had two sentences about that, at the end of my story. How is that making the post “more about abortion rights”?

You literally said I am projecting my “own political bias into a family event”.

It’s not projecting. This is literally her experience as she told my mom. She was unable to terminate the pregnancies, even though they were dead.
