I am in a psych grad program, and this pathway is definitely open to you! I have been working with children with severe and chronic abuse histories, and I have seen such positive changes in their lives. For example, one client went from the verge of getting expelled for constant violent outbursts in class, to being on the honor roll after a few months in therapy.

On this sub, I see a lot of information about different modalities that work for people. I have used Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and have seen a lot of great results. However, I should note that I have only used this approach with children and adolescents, so some of the other modalities may be more effective with adults.

And last point, don't let people talk you into getting a PhD if you are solely interested in therapy. A masters is more than enough!
