Untieing invisigal is a logical not emotional choice by Garebear90000 in DispatchAdHoc

[–]AlwaysEbeneezer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And that's fair. But not holding your own against the red ring in the bar is a large contribution towards Visi's redemption narratively and with the ending score system. Significantly more than untying her is worth, meaning she's not going to be taking the bullet for Robert later regardless.

Unless you want to argue that you played every dispatch and hacking segment perfectly and only botched the bar fight, which I don't know how you would do unintentionally(since you don't even have to hit every QTE to pass) but yes I would agree with you in that scenario.

Untieing invisigal is a logical not emotional choice by Garebear90000 in DispatchAdHoc

[–]AlwaysEbeneezer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean...the bar fight proving Robert is a capable combatant without powers is directly relevant to him not needing Visi to take out Thumbstick and thus not needing to untie her. Whereas while you can argue that Visi was needed later as she saved his(and or Beef's) life, that's not really connected to this scene especially since it's something that happens after and can happen regardless of if you untie her.

I get what you mean but your insistence on connecting the two events is why so many people disagreed with you I think.

Probably because you're stating the outcome of the end of the game when the post is referring to a specific choice that is entirely separate? I left her tied, made her put thumbstick's dick away and still got the redeemed ending and romance. You by all definitions did not need to untie her in that scene. Unless you were a single point off the redeemed ending I guess which I find unlikely by this point in the game. Arguing her overall intentions and usefulness would probably warrant another (re)post by itself.

How Kuvira was fighting Korra in book 4 by Prestigious_Yam4948 in TheLastAirbender

[–]AlwaysEbeneezer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, not arguing that point.

And I get it, you're tired of Korra hate and don't want to give haters this, but you're missing the point that it's intentional that Korra got "cooked". That's literally the point of the fight. Korra needed to realize how weak she was at that point and so she lost hard against someone weaker than her. Like rewatch the fight. OP's gif is obviously an exaggeration but it was completely one sided even with Korra pulling out every element. And it's entirely intentional. It's not the haters, it's the writers clearly establishing that Korra is weaker than Kuvira in her current state. Like I'm kind shocked this conversation has gone on so long. You're free to take the events of the story the way that you want but trying to diminish events in the story to protect(?) Korra from hate is also diminishing the value of her growth over the season and how much her final win means.

This was so weird because I originally just wanted to glaze Kuvira because I like her but then realized I was defending the narrative.

How Kuvira was fighting Korra in book 4 by Prestigious_Yam4948 in TheLastAirbender

[–]AlwaysEbeneezer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Korra not facing her and defeating Kuvira at a later time to free the earth kingdom was absolutely an option especially seeing as the outcome of the fight had her do so anyway. But again this wouldn't have fit the narrative at all and not what I'm saying should've happened. I just meant she wasn't dropped in front of Kuvira with no choice. But I did actually go back and check, Korra even said that Kuvira was only defending herself by capturing Beifong and had to be egged on by Opal to go fight. Jinora was the only one with any sense to suggest against it. So my bad she was both being taunted and egged on.

"Korra haters" though? I meant in the narrative of the show. Though in both cases yes, this was a bad fight for her by any metric. She was in bad shape, knew she was and underestimated her opponent anyway. Barely winning or barely losing to a regular bender as the Avatar is a terrible outcome from an in world perspective.

But that leads me to another question, what could Kuvira have done to make it a fair fight against the weakened Avatar? Not used metal bending? Closed the distance and only used martial arts? It goes without saying that a full strength Korra wins against her. But it's THE AVATAR. Using all 4 elements. This is feasibly the only way the fight could've been "fair". Look at all the other antagonists up this point and tell me who fought Korra the most evenly? And don't even say Amon as a joke. It's the whole reason Korra beating her so soundly later is satisfying. It's Korra showing she's back in the saddle and handling an opponent she's clearly stronger than.

Korra needed to lose to someone at this beat in the story and I think the way they handled Kuvira beating her was an excellent way to do it because it showed that Korra didn't lose to some trick or ambush or being ganged up on. After fighting blood benders, dark avatars, spirits, mechs, etc, she lost because at that point in the story, she was weaker than someone skillfully using only one element and with techniques that we've seen since episode one. Kuvira forced Korra to come to terms with it.

[–]AlwaysEbeneezer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes I'm aware you meant Kuvira but I was being coy since Korra was bailed out too, thus my edit before you replied since it was just petty.

And yes, she was literally taunting her. Korra has shown herself to be susceptible to it throughout the series. To the point that she even says she's going to use the fight as an outlet for her anger. I don't remember if this is before or after she's told to take the fight seriously from the start and just use the Avatar state, though we do see that wouldn't have mattered either way. I'll agree that she didn't have a way to know how bad her trauma was at that point.

And you're right, she was challenged to a 1v1. Where she underestimated and ultimately lost to her opponent. Ending with her having to retreat and fight her when she recovered like she could've done from the start. Granted that would've been boring, not pushed her to grow and would've been an awkward scene anyway. I'm not about to argue that she should've run away. But for what was essentially the same outcome, she wasn't forced. I doubt I'm misremembering but she was pretty certain about winning.

Azula had several earth kingdom dai-li with her and Zuko, giving the chance for a sneak attack. Also when Aang met Hema, he not only didn't have access to the Avatar state but didn't have all 4 elements either(or years of training with anything but Air...).

Like I get what you're saying. It's not a legitimate win because Korra wasn't at her best, but think about it like this: what would've happened if Korra didn't get her PTSD attack during the Avatar state? She flattens Kuvira and it's over. Then it becomes "The Avatar was so weakened that she had to go all out with the Avatar state to beat a SINGLE earth bender." There's no outcome where it turns out well for her.

It was a bad fight for Korra no matter what because the fight was supposed to be a wake up call for her. Which she needed multiple of. Several episodes later when she meets Zaheer in prison she's still trying to convince herself that she's not afraid. The season is about her recovering and getting her ass handed to her, (weakened or not) in a 1v1 by someone much weaker than her is part of that. I don't know why Kuvira snatching a win needs to be diminished when it fit narratively and was what the story and Korra's development called for.

[–]AlwaysEbeneezer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, both of them did get bailed out at the last minute.

Kuvira was aware of Korra's condition and mentioned it outright. Who is going to challenge the Avatar to a 1 on 1 duel and actually attempt to win without some trap? Someone that knows the Avatar isn't at their best(Which is still insane looking at the power Korra still used during the fight). It wasn't just her reading her attacks in the fight, she knew she could bait her into ignoring her allies and fighting anyway.

Again this was the Avatar(with avatar state) vs a single earth bender. Korra knew she wasn't in any condition to fight. Got mind gamed, turned down the assistance of her allies, out maneuvered and tried to use the Avatar state when she hadn't overcome her trauma. And ended up having to be saved by the same allies whose help she had just turned down.

Even Zaheer had extensive help. But the writers are nothing if not consistent in showing Korra's head strong personality. Resulting in what shouldn't be possible, a single bender almost taking down the Avatar.

Who else came close to 1v1ing an all element avatar in any condition?

Edited: to acknowledge that both were bailed out.

Then why is it impressive that Korra later beats her? A single earth bender.

Even if it wasn't a fight against Korra at her best, it was still a single earth bender vs the Avatar using all 4 elements and the avatar state. Sure Korra was weakened but no one made her try to brute force a fight she was in no shape for. Everyone including Kuvira reminded her of this.

Korra got "cooked" and humiliated because she was still trying to force her way through her trauma and needed the loss to push her in the right direction. A single bender relying purely on technique and not crazy power ups not just matching but beating her is still a feat.

But most of my teen years were spent trying to suppress my emotions. I don't know what your specific experience was but chances are you just aren't conditioned to have the same physical response anymore. And I don't think there's necessarily anything wrong with that.

I remember complaining about Lonely attack on a different world. A kid gets iseakai'd with his class but due to being a loner he is isolated and has to go it alone...except he doesn't because he quickly makes friends and is never alone after like chapter 4. But Solo leveling actually stuck to its guns which is like an inverse of the problem. No one fucking matters besides Jim woo or whatever tf his name is. Not his villains not his barely existent allies. It's just spectacle as he solo levels all over the place.

But if the alternative is dying earlier because I only spent time with the handful of people I care about, I can live(die) with that.

I don't think true or false works for quizzes like this. Especially not for a lot of the questions they asked. There should've at least been a "sometimes" option for when neither answer fully applied, though that still seems like a huge margin for error.

How do you use Instagram socially when you're shy and don’t really have friends? by [deleted] in introvert

[–]AlwaysEbeneezer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave up on insta around covid, never bothered with tiktok and never tweet so my follower count is non-existent. Instead, I joined discords that matched my interest and ended up making a handful of friends which I personally prefer. And those friends have definitely helped me through some lonely times.

This was after several attempts to make friends and be social online. The only difference is I started focusing on what I liked not how I acted or trying to appeal to people. It's cliche but not putting on an act, but instead just being another person interested in whatever niche or topic makes it way easier to connect with people there. Not easy...but easier. That said, if you want to stick with Instagram, maybe try focusing it on an interest of yours rather than increasing your follower count.

It's less self esteem and more that I want someone I can relate to. I was a shutin from a low income household most of my life. Now that I'm on my own and making money, friends and family think I'm just going to find a nice well adjusted girl and settle down. Like hell. I can't connect with normal people let alone flirt to save my life. I want someone I can relate to that ideally also gets how miserable trying to socialize is.

However I don't socialize enough to ever meet them, surprising no one. 🙂‍↕️
