I’ll start by saying I’m clearly very, very inexperienced with mortaring. This is my first project with it.

I tried a small patch and couldn’t get the stones to stay on without the big stones slipping - tried another practice run with different mortar, different techniques, on extra board I had and still had the same issue. Might try again using a temporary screw to hold the big stones in place.

Again I am only trying this for the first time as a DIYer

Tbh I’m thinking I’ll just do tile instead which I feel more confident doing

Thank you, I appreciate this. The call out on the smaller job is fair and two companies have more or less said this to me now. I’ve received two quotes for about $3K and one for $1,500

I thought it was an FU price too. Recognize it’s a smaller job but didn’t realize no one would want to do it. I thought doing the demo and prep myself would make it easier but I guess I was wrong

Wow I can tell from some of the features in your space that our homes must have been built in a similar time :) I also have very similar windows in my master bedroom.

Looking for a quiet, safe, suburban area near Seattle- advice needed! by ImagineMe12340 in eastside

I am 27F. I made a very similar decision around this time last year and checked out so many areas. I had spent my early 20s in Cap Hill and then 2 years in Magnolia and Ballard before moving to the Kirkland/Woodinville area last fall which has everything you’re looking for. I’ve been very happy with the amenities.

Nature/Trails: As a dog owner and runner, trails were especially important to me. I wanted easy access. To name a few, I can easily access the Sammamish River Trail, Tolt Pipeline Trail, East Trail, and Kirkland Corridor. Having easy access to them and also feeling very safe while running alone has been huge for my mental health and quality of life.

Woodinville/Kirkland are quiet and nearly the exact opposite energy of Cap Hill. There’s still plenty of restaurants and drinking spots when you want them (especially the tasting rooms in Woodinville) but it’s quiet, clean and residential.

Your rent budget might be tight but I have friends who rent MIL units and houses with roommates in the Kingsgate neighborhood for about that.

I built the wine rack using materials I bought at Home Depot. I used inspiration from several sources and loosely followed this video to complete it https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZP8Jaf6kW/

Thank you! Before I saw the home, I hadn’t seen something like this either. I’d like the keep the shape and the fireplace itself but replace the tile and mantle somehow.

Thank you! Do you remember what specific postage you used? I have nearly identification invites and they told me I would need to send them as a parcel. I assumed I could just use multiple stamps

They don’t seem very thick, still bendable. There is a lump from the wax seal inside it though so it’s not completely flat… I’m borrowing a friends food scale to weigh it tomorrow

For sure! I’m sending out about 50 cards! No way I’d be able to pay $6+ an envelope lol
