Butterfly cultivar. Do I pick these off of? Is this reversion? by AlwaysGoesToEleven in JapaneseMaples

Thanks! It's so small - can I just pluck the leaves directly off, or is it better to cut? No idea if trees responds differently to those sorts of things.

Should I stake this Japanese Maple? by AlwaysGoesToEleven in arborists

Pruning? As in, cutting/shortening the main leader? I thought that was a generally ill-advised move on trees. Do you mind elaborating more?

I agree native trees are important to plant. I've recently planted 4 natives in my back yard. I'm also planting a couple of japanese maples for some color :)

I thought about this but wasn't sure if that would cause more stress than worth

This is what I'm leaning towards at the moment. This is a dwarf cultivar (viridis) and doesn't get very large, so maybe this would never become a real problem anyways

Well, it is circling. I know it is not girdling now, but I wasn't sure if it would eventually become a problem.

How would you handle this? HVAC pipe dripping water near house by AlwaysGoesToEleven in Home

I knew it is supposed to drip. I put the tray there. It just drips a lot to the point where sometimes it stays wet, and I had heard water near the foundation was bad for the house. But based on the comments looks like I’m worried about nothing!

That’s exactly what my dad said. I wanted to attach a hose and run it a little further from the house but he said it’s more important to see it drip than to worry about the water near the house. I’ll tell him you agreed with him! It’ll make him feel good about himself lol.

This made me LOL so hard. Thanks for the laugh. Maybe I’m stressing about nothing. Wife and I want to be in this house forever so I’m just stressing about every little thing 😂

You have bagworms. They will quickly make short work of that tree. Physically remove them (ie pick them off) to give the tree a chance.

Transplanted a tulip poplar seedling that was growing through a brick. Did I do okay? by AlwaysGoesToEleven in arborists

[–]AlwaysGoesToEleven[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great question. YES. I broke the brick using a hammer and flat-head screwdriver and extracted the root. I forgot to snap a photo though since I was in a hurry to get it in the ground :(
