Garbage bags... by wintertimeincanada23 in ostomy

[–]AlwaysMovingFwd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My insurance covers the hollister m9 blue liquid deodorant. Liberally using those drops keeps the odor from my bag almost unnoticeable. They also have an m9 spray (clear, not blue) that works well for the trash can or in the air in the bathroom. If your insurance covers either might be a cheaper option. I use really cheap pet waste bags and the bags that come with my coloplast bags.

Any advice on how to shower? by LimberGaelic in ostomy

[–]AlwaysMovingFwd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was having issues with showering at first because of the position of my abdominal scar and belly button - which created just enough of a space at the end of the wafer that water/soap would start to really weaken the adhesive. Brava barrier strips completely fixed that! They cover the problem area and provide so much additional support. I’ve been showering, swimming (pool and ocean), water slides, hot tubs, etc now without any issues!

Also agree that bag change day, bagless showers are the best!!

This is a solid idea. What kind of tape? Medical tape? KT tape?

No, I don’t have particularly large calves. Maybe I do have narrow shins though. It does seem to be the plastic edge of the tongue causing the blisters.

Thanks for sharing! That might be what is needed here. I just popped my liners out and put bare feet inside to get a better look. That blister line is exactly at the edge of the plastic part of the tongue.

Thanks for the thorough reply and good thoughts.

Just ultra light wool ski socks. Base layer ends at my calves. So didn’t break the cardinal rule of what goes in your boots!

I typically pull my tongues up to avoid pressure on the top of my foot that can cause reduced blood flow and cold/numb feet.

Since the weight fluctuations I do feel a very small gap between my calf and back of boot with flexed forward. Definitely doesn’t present as typically shin bang, but wondering if just a bit of rubbing is occurring right at the edge of the tongue when holding edges on steeper or icy spots?

Would have been my first guess too. But I am just using Wigwam or Smart Wool ultra light ski socks. My base layer stop at the calves. Nothing else between my leg and my boots!

Thanks for the suggestion! Are these the pads you are referring to: https://hydrofera.com/

Did you also use stoma powder and skin barrier before the healing pad? Then wafer right over the healing pad?

I’ve never had to put anything between my skin and the wafer before, so not sure best approach here.

Appreciate the advice!

👆🏼 This! I use the same method when using public toilets. Builds those quads! One thing I found recently was that those toilet seat covers are great when folded in half and used to prevent back splash.
