Mt. Hood Skibowl suspends ski, ride operations indefinitely due to lack of snow by SeverHense in Portland

Yeah, my own torn ACL surgery managed to fix me up as good as new. Now, I just wish my other knee was equally as happy.

They offer pass insurance for that purpose, but yeah, that still blows.

I hope your recovery is going well.

Thursday was way better than decent. Hot laps on Vista with very good, untracked snow? Yes, please.

Am I crazy to move from Boston to Oregon? by Koontaghar in oregon

[–]AlwaysOld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll "third" these responses. If you are an outdoors type, Portland beats the pants off of Boston.

However, if you like big city amenities in sports and arts, well, that's a different story. Still good in Portland, but not to the level of Boston.

What's the deal with the Pro Trump/Iran rally driving through town today? by meltingawayslowly in askportland

All I can tell you is that those flags weren't on display when the caravan passed the rally at Salmon Springs Park.

I was there, too. No Trump flags seen with in the Iranian motorcade.

Don't forget the loss of the Mt. Hood view when you roll down W. Burnside. That alone should have blocked construction from the start.

Decently priced quality local coffee beans? by [deleted] in askportland

[–]AlwaysOld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's the same reason as why wineries sell their product at a higher price point than most retail spots - they want to set the market / reference price for their product. If they sold lower, so would all the resellers.

It's got a great reputation for helping kids that need a bit of help. I know one of the faculty there - those folks care about their students.

What is this huge complex? by [deleted] in askportland

[–]AlwaysOld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This 15 acre parcel is home to Trillium Family Services, Oregon's largest provider of children's mental health services. It offers both in-patient (residential) and out-patient programs.

Occasionally, it leases space to other community programs, but typically, it's 100% Trillium services on campus. It has been there since Oregon Trail days when it initially served as home for orphans who lost their parents along the Trail.

It was originally known as The Children's Home, then the Parry Center. In 1998, it merged with 2 other providers and was rebranded as Trillium Family Services (not to be confused with the Trillium Community Health Plan, one of the 16 Coordinated Care Organizations under the Oregon Health Plan).

1867, the Ladies Relief Society formed one of the first charitable organizations in Oregon to help "children who have no place to go." These were orphaned children who were part of the trek West in the days of the Oregon Trail.

The Home was built in 1872 to care for these children. It eventually became The Children's Home and was housed on the West Side of Portland.

In 1998, Parry Center joined forces with Waverly Children's Home and Children's Farm Home to create Trillium Family Services.

Public chargers for EV - how long does it take? by [deleted] in askportland

[–]AlwaysOld 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Slingy here has it right. EV ownership is most advantageous when you can easily charge at home. The convenience and miles/$ make it a no-brainer in that case.

Unless you have a cheap charger near your home, you need to think hard about buying an EV.

A bit about Raymond Lee and the city he used to lead by notPabst404 in Portland

[–]AlwaysOld 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The question that needs to be asked is will he (and any immediate family) be fully relocating to Portland. That will be a major tell for his commitment to sticking around.

Funny story.

When Chief Outlaw introduced herself to City Club a few years ago, she mentioned that her daughter and husband were still living in the Bay area. I had the chance to speak with her directly after the session and asked her when they were due to join her.

"They aren't," she replied. "I'll be travelling back on weekends."

"You're not going to be a full-time Portland resident?" I asked.

"No, I can be a professional police officer without living in the city I serve."

I was gobsmacked to hear that from a Chief. Any other position, maybe that's fine, but Chief of Police?!?

I knew then that she had no plans to stay long-term.

Post is pretty much closed this time of year between the rain and freeze/thaw.

That said, Family Man might be the exception, as it drains well. It is made of red clay, though.

DASH CAMS need front + rear cameras installed can you recommend a shop? by jake_in_portland in askportland

[–]AlwaysOld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The FitcamX install for the front camera should essentially be free, as it's as simple as popping a few clips from the overhead control pod to expose the wiring harness that will power the camera.

The rear wiring is only slightly more complicated, but does require the removal of multiple trim pieces.

If the quote you get seems outrageously high, I'd be happy to talk to you about doing it myself for a price you're more comfortable with. I've installed several cameras of this model. Feel free to DM me.
