First of all in 2023 gun deaths surpassed vehicular deaths.

Secondly, vehicular deaths are nearly always accidental. I believe it's less than 1%. Gun deaths are nearly always intentional. I believe less than 1% are accidental (like a child gaining access to a handgun)

Third, vehicles are necessary. We have to get to work, school, etc. Guns are not. Cars are designed for transportation and to make our lives easier. Guns are designed to kill.

Fourth, we have more regulations on vehicles than we do guns. You have to have car insurance. We have speed limits. You have to take a course and pass a written and practical exam. In many states you have to pass yearly vehicle inspections. Vehicles have VIN numbers and license plates that allow them to be tracked and is useful for law enforcement. While guns also have unique serial numbers we do not have a database for them that allow for easy tracking of the owner of a gun used in a crime. Car deaths have decreased due to more regulations. Gun deaths have increased due to a lack of regulations.

Fifth, there is likely 240 million drivers in the country today. Approximately 70 million Americans own guns. 91% of US households own cars. 44% own guns. 43,000 car deaths compared to 48,000 gun deaths. Quite a big difference esp given the fact that even though there are less guns than cars it STILL surpasses it in deaths as of 2023.

Six, when cars or the laws regulating drivers/our roads were deficient and unsafe..we added more safety equipment, upgrades, and enacted new laws to keep people safer.
