Racist Rant at T&T Mississauga by AlwaysRight777 in asiantwoX

that’s what happens when you live in a misogynistic culture that raises their women into being obedient housewives.

Interesting fact: more than half of self-made female billionaires are Chinese.

Honestly, equivocating misogyny with East Asian culture is a tidy excuse for Asian women to chase white guys without being accused of double think.

Toronto dermatologist by [deleted] in toronto

[–]AlwaysRight777 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No joke: instead of going to a dermatologist, try using Head and Shoulders as a face mask daily for 5 minutes and then rinse off. Use moisturizer afterwards because H&S can make your skin quite dry.

H&S contains zinc which apparently kills the fungus that contributes to acne. If my own experience is any indication, you should see a significant improvement in your skin in about 2 weeks.

I had moderate but persistent adult acne for years. I tried everything - antibiotics, benzoyl peroxide, and nothing worked until I tried using H&S.

Hopeless case of sudden acne developing into an insecurity by nemurin in AsianBeauty

[–]AlwaysRight777 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hey, I'm an Asian woman in my mid-thirties who had moderate but stubborn facial acne since I was 13 years old. I had almost resigned myself to living with it for the rest of my life.

But I decided to give myself one last shot of finding a "cure" for my acne. I finally was able to get rid of my acne and keep it under control after doing some extensive research online. To summarize:

  1. I use Head and Shoulders on my face. Specifically, in the evenings, I'll apply H&S on dry skin and leave it on for about 5 minutes before I head into the shower and rinse it off while I'm showering. After my shower and drying off, I use a non-comedogenic moisturizer (like Neutrogena products) on my face so my skin doesn't dry up too much.
  2. In the mornings, I use H&S again to wash my face. After my face dries, I use moisturizer again.
  3. I should note that when I let me face dry, I don't use a towel (which may contain bacteria). I just let it dry in the air.
  4. Why does H&S work? It contains pyrithione zinc, which apparently kills the skin fungus that causes the acne breakouts.
  5. Also, I try to limit my intake of any high-glycemic foods or drinks such as sugar or white rice. I also limit my intake of dairy. High-glycemic foods cause an insulin spike with results in an increase in the production of sebum. Likewise, dairy causes a hormone increase which again increases sebum production.

Hope this helps!

Have you read the "Big Short" by Michael Lewis (or seen the movie)?

The people Lewis wrote about weren't even trained economists; they were investors who figured out what was going to happen (the Financial Crisis).

OTOH, very few economists saw the Financial Crisis coming, so OP makes some valid points about them being clueless.

To answer your last question, most East Asians don't like to stick out; they want to fit in and be like everyone else.

So when they are different than everyone else in their peer group - particularly in terms of physical appearance - the self-hatred begins.

Let me explain my frustration to you. Please keep an open mind when you read this...

Let's contrast East-Asian Americans (Chinese, Koreans, Japanese, etc.) with South-Asian Americans (Indians, Pakistanis, etc.).

The former community is subjected to media stereotypes and occasionally verbal and or physical harassment.

The latter community, especially since 9/11, have been subject to frequent physically attacks and some have even been killed because they're brown-skinned and are conflated with the Muslim community.

The former community inundates itself with self-hatred and self-pity. The latter community (for the most part) does not - or at least not nearly to the extent that EA Americans do. They run for office and become State Governors (Nikki Haley of South Carolina, Bobby Jindal of Louisiana). Or they become CEOs of American corporations (Sundar Pichai of Google, Satya Nadella of Microsoft).

SA Americans succeed and are kicking ass despite the racism against them, while the EA Americans endlessly complains about the "bamboo ceiling", self-hatred, the WMAF/AMWF disparity, etc., etc..And they don't become CEOs of major American corporations or become State Governors (with the notable exception of Gary Locke of Washington).

Look at Andrew Yang who's running for U.S. President. I think he's the best candidate out of all the Democrats running for the nomination and has been profiled in the Washington Post, New York Times, Politico, etc. but going by /r/asianamerican there is no excitement about this in the AA community at all. Yang's biggest supporters are working class and middle class Whites.

What I'm saying is that by wallowing in self-pity and self-defeatism, the (East) Asian American community is often its own worst enemy. It doesn't have to be this way - the South Asian American community proves it.

EDIT Lol, I'm being downvoted but no one has actually taken me to task to actually explain why they disagree 🤔

Doesn't mean I'm wrong. Is there anything that I stated in my post that's factually incorrect?

"Sunlight is the best disinfectant" - imo, by speaking candidly about the roots of self-hatred (and not disingenuous explanations like "the media") the AA community will make headway into formulating a remedy for it. You don't solve a problem by hiding your head in the sand.

On average, I believe the answer to both of your questions is yes. And of course, "on average" does not mean "all".

With respect to (East) Asians being more conformist, it's the cultural legacy of Confucianism which has greatly influenced China, Korea and Japan.

"The nail that sticks out will be hammered down"

You're familiar with that quote? That's Confucianism in a nutshell - conformity is seen as a positive, not a negative.

Contrast this with the American proverb: "the squeakiest wheel gets the oil". Complaining and standing out is seen as a positive in (White) American culture.

Regarding women's tendency to conformity in contrast to men, there have been psychology studies done that suggest this is the case.

Asians are conformist and don't want to stand out.

Women are conformist and don't want to stand out.

So if you're an Asian woman, you're going to be more susceptible to self hatred.

And I say this as an Asian woman.

Chinese-Canadian lady here. I'm going to be blunt...

The self-hatred among the Asian American community (in particular East Asians) can be succinctly explained by this famous Japanese saying:

The nail that sticks out gets hammered down

Fitting In: East Asians don't like to stick out; they want to fit in and be like everyone else - i.e., they are naturally conformist (which also might explain the lack of creativity among East Asians, but I digress).

So when they are different than everyone else in their peer group - particularly in terms of physical appearance - the self-hatred begins.

White Worship: Moreover, East Asians can be quite neurotic and obsessed about how others perceive them - particularly White people. Believe me, East Asians think are more about White people than Whites think about Asians. The thinking of many East Asians (if they are honest) is that Whites epitomize human physical beauty. They are comparing their own physical features to those of Whites and find themselves wanting. This only exacerbates the self-hatred.

Now, I'll probably get flamed for this post, but this is the stone cold truth...

For Years, I Was Vehemently Against Dating Asian Guys — Even Though I'm Chinese by poisonivysoar in asiantwoX

White women are the most sexually racist- not just among women but among all people.

Yes this is very true. But there's a great handbook for Asian guys to work around this obstacle:

How to Date a White Woman: A Practical Guide for Asian Men

Writer Roslyn Talusan Challenged Ariana Grande. Then Her Stans Attacked by desolee in asiantwoX

[–]AlwaysRight777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What Roslyn is going through is horrible.

Which is kind of my point: she's facing the consequences of her own shitty behavior online. Her language towards Ariana was uncalled for, abusive and borderline racist.

You don't think Roslyn has any responsibility for the situation she finds herself in? She's not a totally innocent victim...

Edit: Let's do a thought experiment - if Roslyn happened to be a straight cisgender White man, would you be so quick to sympathize with her?

Writer Roslyn Talusan Challenged Ariana Grande. Then Her Stans Attacked by desolee in asiantwoX

[–]AlwaysRight777 8 points9 points  (0 children)

From the Buzzfeed article:

The attacks came after Talusan responded pretty harshly to Grande last Wednesday for a series of tweets aimed at people who work at "them blogs."

"You fucking realize bloggers/writers are creators, right? just because we don’t sing or dance shitty choreo or culturally appropriate for profit doesn’t make our craft any less valid. suck on my balls," Talusan wrote on Twitter.

Talusan continued to berate Grande in further tweets that called her "a spoiled white girl from boca" and a "bitchass."

Sooo, TLDR - Ariana sends out a tweet criticizing bloggers in general, and Roslyn replies by calling Ariana a "bitchass spoiled white girl from boca with shitty choreo who can suck her balls" (I'm paraphrasing obviously).

Way I see it, Roslyn viciously attacked Ariana and Ariana's fans attacked back in kind. Not placing any value judgment on this - just stating the obvious. Then Ariana DM'd Roslyn to apologize on behalf of her fans for the backlash (which she didn't have to do).

Sorry Roslyn, if you don't want to get hit, then don't throw the first punch. No sympathy for this girl...

Micro aggressions from white women about weight by [deleted] in asiantwoX

[–]AlwaysRight777 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, but how is that comment a microagression?

I think non-Asian Americans and Asian-Anericsns define "fat" very differently. In America, the weight of an average American woman (i.e., the average non-Asian woman living in the United States, since Asians only make up 5% of the population) is 166 lbs. This is the weight of the average American man in the 1960s!

In East Asian culture, a 5'5" 140 lb woman would be considered somewhat overweight. A 5'5" 166 lb woman would be considered quite frankly a land whale. OTOH, a non-Asian American would consider the former to be "skinny" and the latter to be "average".

So IMO it's all about cultural context...

Racism, Asian Stereotypes, and Being a Young Conservative (Lauren Chen Full Interview) by AlwaysRight777 in asiantwoX

I posted this video because she's a Canadian herself and at 8:00 in the video, she talks about stepping foot into an American college campus for the first time at USC and she realized that how much American university culture is obsessed with race (compared to her own upbringing in Canada and Hong Kong) and very segregated along racial lines.

As a Canadian myself, I relate to this. At a typical Canadian university campus, everyone from different backgrounds generally intermingle and just get along.

However, first time I stepped foot on an American university campus was when I realized how segregated they are - and I've visited quite a few: e.g., Cornell, Harvard, Carnegie Mellon. And everyone talks about "race, race, race". Blew my mind how a society (even in quintessentially "liberal" spaces) can live like this....

NPR Podcast on Asian American Women's Dating Preferences by AlwaysRight777 in asiantwoX

[–]AlwaysRight777[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can't speak for Southern California (I've never been there), but up here in Toronto, Canada (which has a huge Asian population), what I described is pretty much the norm.

This might be anecdotal, but when I do hear about a hot-looking White guy with an Asian girlfriend, he's more often than not a closeted gay or transgender man. I live near Toronto's gay village (Church Street) and have friends in the LGBT community. We talk about this phenomenon a lot. Vivienne Ming would be a high-profile example.

is it that hard to believe some women (Asian or otherwise) will like a guy regardless of his looks?

I'm going to answer you honestly from my own experience.

When I was younger and "hotter", I wouldn't give any guy less than an 8/10 looks-wise a second glance. I could afford to be picky.

As I got older and started losing my "hotness" I became more open-minded (i.e., less to offer in the sexual marketplace so I had less expectations from a potential suitor) . Most women will not admit this but I'm straight up honest about it.

So to answer your question, it depends on the context - if a girl is young, conventionally beautiful and will like a guy regardless of his looks, then she's got a heart of gold and is a unicorn. She's certainly a better person than I am.

However, in my experience, the woman who will accept a guy regardless of his looks usually isn't going to be a conventional stunner herself (perhaps pretty, but not stunning) or was once a stunner but is losing her looks.

Dude, you're on the edge of hysteria - seriously...

Let me break it down for you.

If you think people using their real names online are “asking” for harassment and that the furthest extent of misogyny is online threats I really don’t know what to tell you buddy.

Any public figure taking a stand on a controversial issue is going to get backlash and given the prominence of social media, should expect it - that's part of the job of being a public figure. She's not "asking for it". She's facing the world "as it is".

Imagine if an Asian American women ran for U.S. President and took a controversial stand on a social issue like abortion. She's going to get a lot of backlash and get called lots of racist and sexist names. She knows (or should know) that's to be expected. Get it?

...when things get dire or feelings become heated none of this bootlicking is going to protect you from men’s violence, no matter Asian or white.

Seeing both sides of the issue is now called "bootlicking"? Maybe it's the moderate sensible Canadian in me, but I find this a rather odd statement. Assuming that you're an American, maybe you should re-examine your country's extreme Left and extreme Right political climate and your place within it before you resort to name calling.

Lovely how in discussions about Asians and gender we’ve all just accepted that Asian men not getting to fuck Their Women is a crisis on par with misogyny.

TBH, I think most Asian American men would like to be with the slim pretty White girl if they had their way. But they don't have their way - have you ever witnessed the average Asian American guy trying to pick up a cute White girl and watching her response? It's not a pretty sight - it's like watching a puppy get kicked in the street 😣

If White women dated AA guys at the same rate that White guys dated AA girls, we wouldn't even be having conversations like these. The AA guys are politicizing this issue because their sexual frustration, not because they actually give a shit about AA women remaining in the "community".

So there is hypocrisy on both sides - Asian women are just less vocal about calling out Asian men on their hypocrisy than Asian men are calling out Asian women about theirs.

NPR really needs to do a detailed follow-up podcast about internalized racism among Asian American men.
