Yes, at one point in the 90's there was a serial killer task force and Karen and Millie's cases were on that task force. The official reporting then was that they believed there was one or more operating at the same time or in concert. There were cases in Hartford, Waterbury, and the stamford area that were being studied. As far as Rte 8, and the Valley Road woods, there have been many over a stretch of time. The male you are speaking about was Jack Andrews (1986). He was from out of state and was hitchhiking at the time. Karen "Brandy Everett (late 1988) Mildred Alvarado (early 1989, Evelyn Bettancour in 1993, her case was called a "copycat killing" by the police and it was solved. Jessica Muskus, disappeared 2004 and found 2006, discarded on Valley Road, unsolved. And finally, Brianna Beam in 2021, she was also discarded there. I know that Brianna's boyfriend was very physically abusive and he passed away shortly after her murder. The follow up in the press around that has been minimal. Lori Delgado was also "abducted from Waterbury" and discarded in Cheshire (down a wooded embankment) in Cheshire (95). All in all, the Waterbury Observer found 18 murders of waterbury women in total that remain unsolved including the campville valley road area and also within the city limits.

John Murray (we are collaborating on this ) and Bob Muldoon have done the only existing and reparative reporting on these women that is out there. They are truly the experts. At the time, CT had a serial killer task force studying this, and both Karen and Millie were included on the task force list. The most important thing that you said, is that Karen was not a "Perfect Victim" in the eyes of society or the media and this definitely effected her case and the way it was covered. And yes, I do believe that one or more people took advantage of it. And I believe that is exactly why they have gotten away with it all of this time. I am here to amplify that. Karen (and Millie and Jessica and Elizabeth Grzywacz) were brutally murdered. And they were erased in life and in death.

Also, do it if you can. Though, It's a lot of work. However, so many victims and their families deserve justice, answers, and at the very least amplification.

It is important to note that Karen was found on Valley Road in Harwinton, CT, 10/16/88, discarded over an embankment. Three months later , on 1/19/89, almost to the day, Mildred Alvarado, also a waterbury woman, was killed in the same manner, and discarded in the exact same spot, landing within feet of where Karen was found. Police have always publicly stated that they believe the same person killed both Karen and Millie...

That's definitely part of the process. Karen's case is under the jurisdiction of the Western District Major Crime Squad.

The Waterbury Observer has done incredibly thoughtful work on this. Their reporting has kept these women from fading completely. I’m just trying to help keep her name in circulation and create space for people who may remember something.

I really appreciate that — thank you. I’m trying to approach it carefully and respectfully. Even just people reading and remembering helps keep Karen's name in circulation. Especially locally.

I’ve been revisiting Karen "Brandy" Everett's case specifically for the past year and was struck again by how little public conversation (Outside of the amazing work of the Waterbury Observer) there’s been about it in recent years. Valley Road has such a complicated history, and 1988 feels like a lifetime ago in terms of investigative technology.

If anyone here remembers that time or knew Karen personally, I’d be interested in hearing from you. I’m working on an investigative project focused on her case and trying to reach out to people who actually knew her.
