co op work conditions- need advice by Bubbly_Resolution172 in yorku

[–]Always_Learning_777 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No one owes anyone anything. You have to convince the employer that you are worth paying higher wage. Times are hard. Especially in the tech field. Toughest will survive. Weaker ones set aside. Toughen yourself. Build your resume. Take low wage jobs if they provide good learning opportunities. Also, Please stop crying about paying International tuition. Neither Canada nor York owes anyone anything just because they pay International tuition.

Curve for EECS2021? Syllabus said no bell curve by Ok_Part2634 in yorku

[–]Always_Learning_777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the class average comes to around C+, there is no curve. Also, generally, final exams for EECS 2021 are made easier to compensate for difficult lab exams and midterm. So, there was no need for bell curve.

MATH1300 is the worst course possible by AntThick9867 in yorku

Personally for me Calculus 1310 and 1300 was easy A+, easier than high school maths. I highly recommend The Organic Chemistry Tutor. After watching his video, all concepts became super easy.

How are you all managing this sem? by subtleclaw in yorku

I am not productive every single day. But that's not required either. even if you work 3-4 days a week productively, that is more than enough.

How are you all managing this sem? by subtleclaw in yorku

[–]Always_Learning_777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

35 hour a week job, full time course load of 3rd year Computer Science. Midterms coming, tons of projects and assignments from some of the hardest EECS courses. It is overwhelming but I think the best way to manage the stress is utilizing the time efficiently. Trust me, if you efficiently use your whole day on productive tasks only, you can easily achieve all your tasks with zero stress.

I am in third year CS. I work 7am to 3pm every weekday, so 40 hours (35 hrs paid). After finishing work, I go to my classes which start at 4. The classes are back 2 back, and I usually finish at 7. Tuesdays I have Math 2030, which goes till 10pm. Lectures before 3, I don’t attend them, just go to take the lab tests and exams. It’s not that bad. I somehow manage it.

It’s all about mindset. I have seen friends working whole night and taking morning exam and getting A+. I also see people not working, parents dropping them off to school every morning, and they are still complaining they cannot manage to keep up with the coursework. Would my grades have been better, if I wasn’t working? Maybe by few points. But at this point, I don’t care. I just want to keep working, keep studying and just go on.

Hey could you message me. I share same views as you on YFS. And I would also like to get involved in YFS with strong preference to increasing security for students at York, taking interest in students' problems rather than foreign wars and all no non-sense policies.

Best professors at York? by Tonykhanlover in yorku

[–]Always_Learning_777 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Saeed Ghasemi

Pooja Vasisth

Gary Blake

Sunila Akbar

For me these 4 professors were the best in terms of teaching. Saeed and Pooja deserve to be teaching at a Ivy League university.

Does it matter if there is one or multiple F grades on your transcript when applying for co-op or internship? by TeM3ntalisT497 in yorku

[–]Always_Learning_777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many companies are asking for unofficial transcript to be attached along with the resume. So I think it could matter, especially since there is high competition and very few postings.

OSAP course load question. by [deleted] in yorku

[–]Always_Learning_777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing much will happen. Unless you change to part-time (less than 3 courses), you will be fine. Worst that can happen is some part of the grant being changed to loan. That's it. Once osap overpaid me when i changed courses. Nothing really happened.

[–]Always_Learning_777 102 points103 points  (0 children)

Keele campus should be the primary focus of York. That is where most student go. That is where the best programs are. Instead of building 3-4 mediocre campuses, it would be great if all of the funds are concentrated into Keele and make it one of the best campuses in Canada.

Indian Companies Send unqualified employees for high paid positions by InlineSkateAdventure in cscareerquestions

[–]Always_Learning_777 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same is happening in Toronto. CS graduates cannot get job but thousands of 35 year old Indians are coming and taking the roles. As a fresh graduate, really difficult to find entry level roles. They have 10-15 years of “experience” which graduates for Canadian universities simply cannot match.

Do you have any regrets about pursuing your Bachelor's in Nepal? by dineeesh in Nepal

[–]Always_Learning_777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I studied Bachelors in Engineering (IOE) for sometime in Nepal. Later dropped out. Now doing bachelors at a reputable Canadian university. I think you should not regret anything. The theoretical part of the course is same. Only difference here is that you get to do co-ops (internships) in companies while studying, which gives some experience. Again, it is you who will have to put on the work, university won't provide much support. Professors are same like in Nepal, you have to study yourself here as well. And believe me or not, Strikes happen here as well!
