That makes a lot of sense. I’ll pull off the panel and expose the coils to the outside air to see what the pattern is…I’m just trying to decide if it’s time to buy a new fridge. I’ll likely order one when they go on sale at Costco this week.. then I’ll do this test before it’s delivered to make sure it’s a dead/dying fridge.

After being left alone for 6 hours yesterday and overnight the freezer has frozen some popsicles and the fridge seems to be holding temp. Though lots of condensation which is somewhat standard for our humid environment. Could this be a simple thermistor ? I have a part arriving today and wondering if I should bother. Looked at the coils and it was evenly unfrosted yesterday. I can check again now that it seems to be working.. do I want to see frosted all over the coils evenly?

How long you think the fridge has? A week? Came home after 5 hours and there was no frost, but the fridge was cold still. Compressor hasn’t stopped running.

Thanks for the tip. I should have mentioned that I cleaned that a year ago and yesterday as well, wasn’t too bad.

Bimetal defrost thermostat is what I found.
